Space55 Theatre has been a home for independent D.I.Y. theater in the Valley for two decades. In addition to mounting plays, the theatre has hosted community events like our 7 Minutes in Heaven variety show, open mics, and educational events & workshops like The Playground, Dramaturgy & Donuts and Kim Porter's solo performance workshops.
We're bringing all these different strands together this November when we kick off our 20th season with Muse Fest: The Inspiration Games. Conceived of and produced by Kim Porter, Muse Fest is a playful, myth-inspired theatre festival for Phoenix area creatives seeking a boost of inspiration and human connection in a digital, distracted world.
MuseFest will present two weekends of shows inspired by the Greek Muses, creative writing sessions, inspirational games, costume contests, and a grand finale community showcase where audience members participating in our workshops get to present their work in a live performance! Here’s how it breaks down:
Friday Nov. 7-Saturday Nov. 8
9 Muses: Nine local female performers will present original theatre pieces inspired by one of the 9 Greek Muses. 8pm.
Sunday Nov. 9
Musings Writing Workshop: A 3-hour writing intensive hosted by Coach Kim Porter and playwrights John Perovich and Ashley Naftule. 2-5pm.
Friday Nov. 14-Saturday Nov. 15:
The 9 Amused: Last week we saw 9 women inspired by the Muses. This week, 9 male performers will each present original theatre pieces inspired by one of the women who performed last week! 8pm.
Sunday Nov. 16
Seven Over Seven Show: A performance of the pieces created by the audience over the last seven days.
In addition to these events, each night of MuseFest will include a preshow "Inspo Games" activity at 7:15pm led by a different Valley creative: Kim Porter (11/7), storyteller Liz Warren (11/8), improviser Krissy Lenz (11/14), and improviser Amy Carpenter (11/15). Bring a notebook, play along with us, and see what sparks your imagination.
There will also be a closing ceremony Best of Fest! Awards and an Inspo Museum full of inspiring and unusual sights in the venue lobby.
Tickets are available as a one day ($20), two shows ($35), or a full festival pass with access to all shows and workshops ($45).
