"With its gothic atmosphere, soaring musical numbers, and exploration of the duality of human nature, the musical Jekyll & Hyde provides plenty of theatrical thrills. Emerald City Player's current production adds an intriguing gender-bending twist by casting a male actor as Lucy, one of the musical's central characters. Although this choice creates some interpretive complications, the three leads deliver strong performances, and the direction establishes an appropriately eerie and moody atmosphere that complements the material while offering a dark and intriguing take on this classic tale....As Jekyll and Hyde, Derek Neumann is excellent, creating a compelling distinction between the doctor's earnest idealism and his alter ego's menacing brutality. His performance gives the central conflict an immediacy that anchors the production. Neumann's voice soars on his many songs and he does a great job creating two distinct personalities for Jekyll and Hyde by simply altering his posture and voice.Zeke Collins is equally effective as Lucy, projecting just the right balance of strength and fragility while making the character's vulnerability and resilience equally apparent. Collins' portrayal never panders to caricature or stereotype, instead creating a layered, nuanced depiction of, assumedly, a young gay man who has found himself at the bottom of the barrel, performing in a seedy London club but looking for a way out to a better life. JEKYLL & HYDE - Emerald City Players - October 2 - October 11, 2026

Music by Frank Wildhorn
Book and Lyrics by Leslie Bricusse
Directed by Paul Yount

Our season begins with Frank Wildhorn's international hit musical–Jekyll & Hyde–which has been produced in more than 25 countries and translated into multiple languages. Renowned for its sweeping score, gothic spectacle, and demanding dual leading role, it remains one of the most complex contemporary dramatic musicals. Our version is determined to make audiences question our roles in society–where comparison-culture and hate dictate our actions and where intelligence without compassion can lead us astray.

Praised for its innovative storytelling and emotional depth, Fun Home is widely regarded as one of the defining American musicals of the 21st century. FALSETTOS - Emerald City Players - March 12 - March 21, 2027

Music & Lyrics by William Finn
Book by William Finn & James Lapine

In the spring, we present Falsettos – the Winner of the 1992 Tony Awards for Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score. Falsettos combines William Finn and James Lapine’s musicals, March of the Falsettos (1981) and Falsettoland (1990) into a historical celebration of LGBTQ+ relationships, family values, and resilience. Falsettos is an expression of one’s chosen family, reminding us that empathy is not simply an ideal but an action—one that becomes even more meaningful in the face of loss and uncertainty.

CHESS - Emerald City Players - May 14 - May 21, 2027

Book by: Richard Nelson
Lyrics by: Tim Rice
Music by: Bjorn Ulvaeus & Benny Andersson

Finally, we conclude our season with CHESS – created by the legendary team of Tim Rice and Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus of ABBA – a show that is known for one of the most sophisticated scores in musical theatre history. Its songs, including the international hit "One Night in Bangkok," have earned the musical a lasting legacy and devoted following around the world. CHESS tells a story where political conflict and personal sacrifice reveal that true courage often means risking everything for what we believe, while never losing sight of our shared humanity.

Now accepting video auditions for Emerald City Player's 2026/27 Troupe! Audition submissions due Aug 2nd by 5pm!

Emerald City Players will be casting approximately 12-18 actors for the 2026/27 Troupe. If cast, our 2026/27 "Players" will be guaranteed at least 2 shows, but may possibly be cast in more! Our mission is to uplift a group of dedicated performers and provide a space for actors to grow with the season. We look forward to casting our actors in a variety of roles, including behind the scenes to support the production(s).

*Additional auditions may be held throughout the season to fill roles, as needed but troupe auditioners will have greater precedence. In other words, the 2026/27 Players will make up the primary cast for the season...so get your audition submitted today!*

Please prepare 2 contrasting songs with a 32-bar cut each from a song in one of the '2026/27 Season' shows or a song in the same style of the show(s) you are auditioning for. Your cut should showcase your story telling, since most of the productions are sung-through with very little dialogue. All video auditions are due by August 2nd, 2026 at 5:00 PM.

*Please fill out the form below and submit your video audition link below, preferably as a YouTube link or Google Drive link. Also, attach your headshot and resume to the end of the form.

As artists, audiences, and a community, we are continuously growing. It is when we step into the unknown that we discover not only what we are capable of, but also who we have the potential to be. We become through our triumphs and failures, through the people we love, the questions we ask, and the choices we make when the path ahead is uncertain. It is with that spirit that I am honored to welcome you to our inaugural season, A Season of Becoming.

Our season motto—Seeking Brains, Choosing Heart, Finding Courage, Coming Home—is more than a tribute to a beloved story. It serves as a roadmap for the journeys explored on our stage and reflects the roots of our theatre's mission: to uplift and challenge our community, placing bravery at the heart of every performance, honoring empathy and connection in every character, and championing intelligence and creativity in every story we tell.

Each production invites us to grow in a different way. Together, they ask us to think more deeply, love more openly, stand more bravely, and discover where we truly belong. Community theatre is, at its core, an act of becoming. Every rehearsal transforms strangers into collaborators. Every performance invites audiences to see themselves reflected in someone else's story. Every scene offers an opportunity to leave the theatre in a different way than you came –still holding your breath on the car ride home, well after the final bow.

Thank you for taking this journey with us. Whether you are joining us for one performance or every production of our 2026/27 Season, we are grateful to share these stories with you. We cannot wait to welcome you to Emerald City!

BARE - Emerald City Players - June 12-21, 2026

An electric, contemporary pop opera—BARE—follows a group of students at a Catholic boarding school as they grapple with issues of sexuality, identity, and the future. Peter and Jason have fallen in love with each other, but Jason—a popular athlete—fears losing his status if he is discovered. Nadia—Jason’s unpopular sister—is envious of Ivy, a beautiful girl with a questionable reputation. As the students attempt to put on a production of Romeo and Juliet, tensions flare, self-doubt simmers, and God’s path seems more difficult to find than ever. BARE rings with the sounds of youthful repression and revolt. With heart-pounding lyrics and a cast of complex characters, BARE is a provocative, fresh, and honest look at the dangers of baring our identities and the consequences of remaining hidden.

Show dates: June 12, 13, 19, 20 at 7:30PM and June 14 and 21 @ 2:30PM.

Performance Location: Main Street Creative Arts Center, Mesa AZ.
