CAPTAIN FANTASTIC - Starlight Community Theater - August 11-20, 2023

Teen Comedy
Directed by Kelly Swope

Pity poor Waldo Puppybreath! In the spirit of fearless journalism, he has written an editorial for the school paper suggesting that the proposed site for a new high school building is actually a swamp! The land speculator is not amused. The high school bully, a dead ringer for the Godfather, is muscling in on the Prom Queen Contest. And the biology teacher is demanding Waldo's resignation from the paper because it's interfering with his studies of the anatomy of a cat. In such trying times, Waldo draws strength from his comic book Wonder Heroes. So, when knocked out in a fight with the school Godfather, he enters a twilight world where all the characters of Act One are transformed into the colorful and totally unbelievable characters of Waldo's beloved comic books! A fast-paced comic book farce with a zany romance, some rip-roaring chases, slapstick action and of course good triumphing over evil!

JAMES AND THE GIANT PEACH, JR - Starlight Community Theater - September 8-17, 2023

Youth Musical
Directed by Christina Clodt and Joshua Hengst

A delightfully offbeat adaptation of the classic Roald Dahl adventure, a boy and his insect friends take an amazing journey across the ocean. When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.

YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN - Starlight Community Theater - October 13-28, 2023

Adult Musical Directed by Dan Ashlock

The comedy genius, Mel Brooks, adapts his legendarily funny film into a brilliant stage creation – Young Frankenstein!  Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced "Fronk-en-steen") inherits his family's estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick, Igor (pronounced "Eye-gore"), and a leggy lab assistant, Inga (pronounced normally), Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors. "It's alive!" he exclaims as he brings to life a creature to rival his grandfather's. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds.

ALL IN THE TIMING - Starlight Community Theater - November 10-12, 2023

Special Event Directed by Barbara Dalmazzo, Taylor Tunnell and Gabriel Escudero

Winner of the John Gassner Playwriting Award, this critically acclaimed, award-winning compilation of comedies combines wit, intellect, satire and just plain fun. SURE THING. Two people meet in a cafe and find their way through a conversational minefield as an offstage bell interrupts their false starts, gaffes, and faux pas on the way to falling in love.  WORDS, WORDS, WORDS recalls the philosophical adage that three monkeys typing into infinity will sooner or later produce Hamlet and asks: What would monkeys talk about at their typewriters?  THE UNIVERSAL LANGUAGE brings together Dawn, a young woman with a stutter, and Don, the creator and teacher of Unamunda, a wild comic language. Their lesson sends them off into a dazzling display of hysterical verbal pyrotechnics—and, of course, true love.  PHILIP GLASS BUYS A LOAF OF BREAD is a parodic musical vignette in trademark Glassian style, with the celebrated composer having a moment of existential crisis in a bakery.  THE PHILADELPHIA presents a young man in a restaurant who has fallen into “a Philadelphia,” a Twilight Zone-like state in which he cannot get anything he asks for.  VARIATIONS ON THE DEATH OF TROTSKY shows us the Russian revolutionary on the day of his demise, desperately trying to cope with the mountain-climber’s axe he’s discovered in his head.

SHE LOVES ME - Starlight Community Theater - December 1-17, 2023

After both respond to a "lonely hearts advertisement" in the newspaper, they now live for the love letters that they exchange, but the identity of their admirers remains unknown. Join Amalia and Georg to discover the identity of their true loves... and all the twists and turns along the way!

13, THE MUSICAL - Starlight Community Theater - January 12-21, 2024

Evan Goldman is plucked from his fast-paced, preteen New York City life and plopped into a sleepy Indiana town following his parents divorce. Surrounded by an array of simpleminded middle school students, he needs to establish his place in the popularity pecking order. Can Evan situate himself on a comfortable link of the food chain... or will he dangle at the end with the outcasts?!?

THE LAST FIVE YEARS - Starlight Community Theater - February 2-4, 2024

Special Event Directed by JC Kovac

An emotionally powerful and intimate musical about two New Yorkers in their twenties who fall in and out of love over the course of five years, the show's unconventional structure consists of Cathy, the woman, telling her story backwards while Jamie, the man, tells his story chronologically; the two characters only meet once, at their wedding in the middle of the show.

CAMELOT AND CAMELITTLE - Starlight Community Theater - March 1-10, 2024

Youth Comedy Directed by Nicole Thompson

Spunky, young Ruth dreams of being a Knight of the Round Table. But King Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot and her other heroes laugh at her when she demonstrates her valor in a battle with a melodramatic lizard pretending to be a dragon. Humiliated, Ruth sets off to form her own queendom that is bigger and better than Camelot, bringing with her the lizard and a mule that she claims is a unicorn. Soon they are joined by a frog, whom Ruth declares to be an ogre; a skunk, whom she pronounces a wizard (because the skunk makes everyone disappear); and two kids, whom she dubs her bravest knights. On their quest, they meet the enchanting Lady of the Lake, a bumbling Merlin, riddle-loving trolls, a vain unicorn and the evil sorcerers Morgana le Fay and Mordred, who have their own plan to outdo King Arthur.

MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS - Starlight Community Theater - April 5-14, 2024

Adult Play Directed by Joey Whelan

Ken Ludwig's clever adaptation of the Agatha Christie classic boasts all the glamour, intrigue and suspense of Dame Agatha's celebrated novel, with a healthy dose of humor to quicken the pace. Just after midnight, a snowdrift stops the Orient Express in its tracks. The luxurious train is surprisingly full for the time of the year, but by the morning it is one passenger fewer. An American tycoon lies dead in his compartment, stabbed eight times, his door locked from the inside. Isolated and with a killer in their midst, the passengers rely on detective Hercule Poirot to identify the murderer – in case he or she decides to strike again.
