Music and Book by James Valcq
Lyrics and Book by Fred Alley
Based on the film by Lee David Zlotoff

Recently released from a five-year prison sentence for manslaughter, Percy Talbot finds her second chance working at the Spitfire Grill. The grill is for sale, but there are no takers for the only eatery in the depressed town. With Percy’s future hanging in the balance, she convinces the owner to raffle it off with an essay contest. Soon, mail arrives by the wheelbarrow, and things really start cooking at the Spitfire Grill! With its roots in blues and folk music, this soaring score creates a musical triumph that celebrates second chances and the lasting impact one person can make in a life.

“It is not often that material moves me to tears, but this was one of those occasions. The Spitfire Grill has the heart and soul that your Producers and Full Montys cannot begin to approach. What even in normal times would be a joy is, in these troubled ones, sheer nourishment.” ~ John Simon, New York Magazine

“If after the events of recent weeks you need any reason at all to embrace life again, the musical you’ve been waiting for has arrived. The Spitfire Grill is one of the most heartfelt musicals of recent years, its homespun charms as inviting as a warm winter blanket” ~ Matthew Murray, Talkin’ Broadway

“…a lovely new musical in the Rodgers and Hammerstein tradition” ~ Victor Gluck, AP

SHOUT! The Mod Musical - Arizona Broadway Theatre - March 26-April 18, 2021

SHOUT! The Mod Musical

With its irresistible blend of hip-swiveling hits, eye-popping fashions, and outrageous dance moves, SHOUT! The Mod Musical takes audiences back to the music, style, and freedom of the 1960s. Created by Phillip George and David Lowenstein, SHOUT! features terrific new arrangements of such classic tunes as To Sir with Love, Downtown, Son of a Preacher Man, and Goldfinger.

The review follows five groovy gals as they come of age during those glorious days that made England swing. Traveling in time from 1960 to 1970, SHOUT! chronicles the dawning liberation of women, from the rise of Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, and Cilla Black as independent women with major careers, to their American counterparts, redefining themselves in the face of changing attitudes about gender. With a shimmy and shake, the songs are tied together by hilarious sound bites from the period – from ’60s advertisements to letters answered by an advice columnist who thinks that every problem can be solved with a “fetching new hairstyle and a new shade of lipstick.”

This shows features ABT alums Harley Barton (A Christmas Carol, Legally Blonde), Maris McCulley (Lend Me A Tenor, Bye Bye Birdie), and Blair Beasley. (Elf, Sister Act, Mamma Mia!, Show Boat, South Pacific, and Jesus Christ Superstar), and newcomers  Kait Russell and Amanda Valenzuela.

WALKIN' THE LINE - Arizona Broadway Theatre - January 29 - February 21, 2021

Relive the amazing songs of Johnny Cash in this electrifying tribute to the Man in Black. Hear all of Johnny’s biggest hits, like "Folsom Prison Blues", "Ring of Fire", "A Boy Named Sue", "Walk the Line", and many more accompanied by a live Country band. This show features Scott Moreau, who starred as Johnny Cash in the National Tour of the Broadway smash hit Million Dollar Quartet. Come see this Country legend live and in person!

“There is something about the voice of actor Scott Moreau that is mesmerizing.  Forget the fact that when he sings he sounds so much like Johnny Cash that if you close your eyes you would swear it was the man himself.  But it’s when he speaks that you come under the spell, lulled by a rich, sonorous tone that makes you feel like you’re in a special, intimate space with, in this case, one of the great country singer-songwriters of all time.  Moreau’s voice lures you into Ring Of Fire, and he could not be more convincing in the lead role, which he plays with aplomb and confidence.” ~ J.P. Faber, Coral Gables Magazine
