Monty Python’s Spamalot
Oct 7 – Nov 6

Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python’s Spamalot retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table, and features a bevy of beautiful show girls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people. Did we mention the bevy of beautiful showgirls? The outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story will delight you as they search for the Holy Grail and “Always Look On The Bright Side of Life.”

A Christmas Carol The Musical
Nov 18 – Dec 29

Everyone’s favorite curmudgeon Ebenezer Scrooge returns to the ABT stage! This lavish and thrilling Broadway adaptation of Charles Dickens’ story breathes fantastic new life into the classic tale of Christmas tidings and heart-warming generosity. Bring the whole family and join Tiny Tim, Jacob Marley, and Bob Cratchit as they sing Alan Menken and Lynn Ahrens’s beloved favorites including “A Jolly Good Time,” “Christmas Together,” and “Happy Christmas.” When planning your holiday season, this is a must see!

Mame
Jan 20 – Feb 25

Mame follows the madcap adventures of everyone’s favorite aunt and her adoring nephew. Surrounded by an eccentric cast of characters, she celebrates the Roaring 20s, shamelessly spoils her “little love,” and perseveres through life with humor and style, all without missing a dance step. Jerry Herman’s Tony-nominated score is packed with musical favorites “Bosom Buddies,” “We Need a Little Christmas,” “Open a New Window,” “If He Walked Into My Life,” and more. This year, spend time with the wonderous, the wonderful, the winsome – Mame!

Escape to Margaritaville
Mar 10 – Apr 16

Escape to Margaritaville is a musical comedy featuring the most-loved Jimmy Buffett classics, including “Cheeseburger in Paradise”, “Margaritaville,” “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere,” “Fins,” “Volcano,” and many more. Join Tully and the inhabitants of a small Caribbean bar as they woo the visitors and brave the hurricane season in this hilarious, heartwarming musical – the beach party you’ve been waiting for!

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels
May 5 – Jun 3

Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, based on the popular 1988 MGM film, takes us to the French Riviera for high jinks and hilarity. Sophisticated, suave with a good dash of mischief, this hysterical comedy features a delightfully jazzy score by David Yazbek (The Full Monty) and was nominated for a staggering eleven Tony Awards. A hilarious battle of cons that will keep you laughing, humming and guessing to the end!

The Wizard of Oz
Jun 16 – Jul 23

The classic tale winds its way to ABT! Join Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and the Cowardly Lion as they “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” “Over the Rainbow” toward the Emerald City in an attempt to get Dorothy back home to Kansas and give her companions their true hearts’ desires. Based on the 1939 film, with new songs and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and additional lyrics by Tim Rice, this is your chance to travel to “The Merry Old Land of Oz” this summer!

Disaster!
Aug 18 – Sep 17

Disaster! is a new musical straight from Broadway, featuring some of the most unforgettable songs of the ‘70s in a parody of the era’s disaster flicks. “Knock on Wood,” “Hooked on a Feeling,” “Sky High,” “I Am Woman” and “Hot Stuff” are just a few of the hits in this hilarious musical comedy with a book by SiriusXM Broadway host Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick. With larger-than-life characters, snappy dialogue and some of the most recognizable songs of the ‘70s, Disaster! will have you dancing in your seat and rolling in the aisles.

review - I'LL EAT YOU LAST: A CHAT WITH SUE MENGERS - iTheatre Collaborative

"Sue Mengers may not be a household name but she was the first female power agent in Hollywood who had a large pool of A-list clients, including Barbra Streisand, Gene Hackman, Peter Bogdanovich, Ali McGraw and Michael Caine. She was also known for her dinner parties, where the latest Hollywood gossip was a main dish on the menu. In John Logan's one-woman comedy I'll Eat You Last: A Chat with Sue Mengers, Mengers takes center stage as she talks about her life, past and present clients, and how she became to be such a powerful agent, all while dishing plenty of gossip as she waits for an important phone call. iTheatre Collaborative presents a solid production of this chatty and intriguing play with an excellent performance by Laura Durant as Mengers....Durant is excellent in connecting the dots in Logan's script, and in the stories that Mengers recounts of her past and her dealings with her clients, to add up to a greater whole that allows us to see and understand this woman, warts and all....a rich discovery of one woman's journey to the top of the Hollywood power ladder through her own persistence and dedication to her clients. In iTheatre Collaborative's winning production, Laura Durant beautifully evokes a richly detailed and memorable portrait of this formidable woman."   -Gil Benbrook, Talkin' Broadway (click here to read the complete review)

review - JEREMY JORDAN WITH SETH RUDETSKY - Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts

highlights from local critics reviews - (click link at bottom of each review to read complete review)

"For the past ten years, Jeremy Jordan has had a successful career on the Broadway stage and in TV series and films. He has also built an impressive following and fan base, which was apparent from his sold-out concert his past weekend at Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. Jordan's amazingly clear and strong singing voice delivered gorgeous versions of songs from the Broadway shows he appeared in, plus other selections. Jordan's concert was part of the Seth Rudetsky concert series, which featured Rudetsky not only accompanying Jordan on the piano but also asking him a series of in-depth questions between songs in an informal interview format....In addition to his gorgeous singing voice, Jordan has a warm and charismatic personality that was on full display throughout the concert...."   -Gil Benbrook, Talkin' Broadway (click here to read the complete review)

"With a score dripping with lush love songs and a simple but moving story set around a wedding in the dreamy highlands of Scotland, Brigadoon is one of the most romantic musicals ever written. Hale Centre Theatre features a cast with exceptional singing voices and energetic dance steps, resulting in a gorgeous and solid production of this classic musical....Director Cambrian James does a wonderful job staging the show in the small Hale space to provide a perfect amount of intimacy while also using the various aisles and stairs to expand the feeling of a larger town setting for the many large ensemble numbers. His choreography is superb and well danced by the cast....As Tommy Albright, Austin Delp's rich voice delivers gorgeous versions of some of the show's biggest hits. He and Amanda Valenzuela, as Fiona MacLaren, create a romantic pair you want to see succeed, even though there is a big obstacle in the way of their budding romance. Valenzuela creates a warm and honest portrayal of Fiona with a lilting singing voice that soars...."   -Gil Benbrook, Talkin' Broadway (click here to read the complete review)

The Bridge Initiative presents talk/concert series, Broadway Curious: Up Close & Personal with Seth Tucker, on March 17

Local celebrity Seth Tucker headlines Broadway Curious, joined by musical director Alicia Ferrin, at ASU Kerr Thursday, March 17th, at 7:00pm. The event marks the latest installment in The Bridge Initiative's musical theatre-centered monthly concert/talk show series, Broadway Curious, offered the third Thursday every month through May. All performances take place at ASU Kerr, 6110 N Scottsdale Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85253. The venue opens its doors at 6:30pm for bar service and meet-and-greet with the artists.

Broadway Curious is hosted by Brenda Foley and Will Rogers. The series centers musical theatre as a catalyst for conversation, inviting a different singer and musical director every month to explore a different topic through musical selections and conversation. The hosts guide the event and the audience is invited to participate. The series offers the community the opportunity to engage and get to know local professional talent in a way that is not possible when they are performing in full theatre productions. The March conversation is titled Good Grief? and will explore performance as catharsis and healing, how sadness and laughter are interrelated, and the artist's approach to emotionally complex material. It promises to be irreverent and raw, challenging and healing.

Tucker is a well-known face across the Valley's professional stages. He most recently appeared in Arizona Theatre Company's Christmas at Pemberley; other notable roles include Murder for Two at Phoenix Theatre Company, I Am My Own Wife at BLK BOX PHX, Parade at ART & Mesa Outback Theatre, and La Cage Aux Folles at Arizona Broadway Theatre. He is also an educator, director, producer, and arts advocate.

Broadway Curious is part of Building Bridges, twice-monthly offerings (along with Monthly Muse) produced by The Bridge Initiative in collaboration with ASU Kerr and funded in part by a grant from Scottsdale Arts. Tickets are pay-what-you-wish from $10 general admission, $5 students (plus fees): https://www.ticketmaster.com/ASU-Kerr-Cultural-Center-tickets-Scottsdale/venue/204827

Cast Announced for THE VALLEY at ASU Music Theatre and Opera

Book and lyrics by Jamie Maletz
Music by Eric Fegan

Over two million people visit Iceland annually, eager to explore its black beaches and blue glaciers while driving the Ring Road in search of the elusive Northern Lights. Four tourists believe they have signed up for a free volunteer trip to help "repair damage caused by local elements" in Iceland. They are technically correct, but definitely not in the way they expected. Their journey brings the very problems they were running away from to the surface.

The Valley is a story about redemption — taking action in the face of impossible odds — and discovering what it means to find a new normal. It is a contemporary dramatic comedy with a running time of approximately two hours.

This musical has a contemporary pop-rock score with influences ranging from Icelandic folk music and progressive rock to Disney ballads and swing jazz.

Content Warning: May not be suitable for young audiences and includes some strong language. Recommended for ages 14 and above.

"The Valley" is presented by arrangement with authors, Jamie Maletz and Eric Fegan.

Fountain Hills Announces their Annual Fundraiser - Broadway in the Hills 2022 - Survivor Edition!, on March 6

Fountain Hills Theater celebrates its return to indoor performances this season, after surviving over a year outside! The Theater will hold its annual fundraising event, Broadway in the Hills, on March 6th, 2022 at the DC Bar & Grill located at beautiful Desert Canyon Golf Club in Fountain Hills. This year’s “Survivor Edition” celebrates keeping our doors open by putting on 19 outdoor shows and concerts on a mobile stage - braving heat, cold and wind! Our loyal patrons were by our side, huddled under space heaters, braving scorching temperatures and occasionally getting rained on!

FHT invites everyone to continue their support by attending Broadway in the Hills: Survivor Edition. The evening will feature a three-course meal, with a choice of chicken piccata, chicken marsala or prime rib and a cash bar will be available. Guests will be entertained by some of their favorite FHT performers! A silent auction will also be held, offering the opportunity to bid on a variety of unique items, experience packages and more.  Proceeds benefit Fountain Hills Theater’s 15 stage productions presented each season on the Mainstage, Mainstage Too and Youth Theater stages, as well as their year-round performing arts educational programs.

Over its thirty-six-year history, FHT has become one of the highest award-winning non-profit theaters in Arizona, winning hundreds of ariZoni and NYA Awards. Additionally, FHT is one of the only Valley theaters to have both of its Artistic Directors and its Executive Producer win Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Hundreds of volunteers, actors, musicians, scenic designers, music directors, artistic directors, choreographers and techies help make it all happen on our stages. Without them and our patrons, none of this would be possible!

Broadway in the Hills: Survivor Edition event begins at 6PM on Sunday, March 6th.  The DC Bar and Grill is located at 10440 N Indian Wells Dr, Fountain Hills AZ 85268. Tickets are $125 and include a three-course dinner and live entertainment.
