In The SpongeBob Musical, we find ourselves in the undersea city of Bikini Bottom, inhabited by a happy-go-lucky and ever-optimistic yellow sea sponge (SpongeBob) and his equally quirky circle of friends and neighbors.  SpongeBob’s pleasant existence is abruptly interrupted when it is discovered that Mt. Humongous, a nearby volcano, will erupt within the next 48 hours and completely obliterate Bikini Bottom.  Chaos erupts. Lives hang in the balance. And just when all hope seems lost, a most unexpected hero rises up and takes center stage. The power of optimism really can save the world!

The SpongeBob Musical is based on the beloved animated series created by Stephen Hillenburg and features a book by Kyle Jarrow, with original songs by Yolanda Adams, Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Sara Bareilles, Jonathan Coulton, Alexander Ebert of Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Flaming Lips, Lady A, Cyndi Lauper, John Legend, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T’s, They Might Be Giants and T.I., and songs by David Bowie, Tom Kenny and Andy Paley. Additional lyrics are by Jonathan Coulton, with additional music by Tom Kitt. The musical production was conceived by Tina Landau.

In Disney's My Son Pinocchio Jr., the classic tale of Geppetto’s, little wooden puppet is given new life. This musical, which retells the classic Disney story from Geppetto’s perspective, features the beloved classic songs, “When You Wish upon a Star” and “I’ve Got No Strings,” alongside a host of new songs by Oscar winner and Grammy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz.

Join the Blue Fairy, Stromboli and a lively cast of characters as Geppetto journeys beyond the toyshop to discover the meaning of family. When the Blue Fairy grants Geppetto's wish to bring his beloved puppet to life, the new father quickly learns that being a parent is full of challenges. He struggles to make his son "the perfect boy," only to lose him to a gang of Roustabouts. It is only when faced with the thought of never seeing Pinocchio again that Geppetto truly learns the joys of being a father and loving his child unconditionally.

Much Ado About Nothing is a comedic farce by William Shakespeare about misunderstandings, love and deception. Hero and her groom-to-be, Claudio, team up with Claudio's commanding officer, Don Pedro, the week before their wedding to hatch a matchmaking scheme.  Their targets are sharp-witted duo Benedick and Beatrice -- a tough task indeed, considering their corresponding distaste for love and each other.

"Prepare ye" for the timeless and joyful tale of friendship, loyalty, betrayal and love based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew. A small band of misfits help Jesus explore different parables by using a wide variety of songs, games, storytelling techniques and comedy.  Originally conceived in 1970 by John-Michael Tebelak (when he was a student at Carnegie Mellon), Godspell was the first major musical theater offering from three-time Grammy and Academy Award winner, Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin, Children of Eden)!

Done to Death is a zany thriller that focuses on five world-weary, past-their-prime authors who are brought to an old mansion on Vulture's Vault – a mysterious island in the Caribbean – to collaborate on and write a new murder mystery TV series. Each writer encompasses their own type of writing style. They include a couple who write sophisticated murders, a young author of the James Bond school, a retired writer of the hard hitting method, and an aging queen of the logical murder. But what they all have in common is their habit of conjuring cliché stories that have been "done to death." When real murders start to happen, accusations and hilarity ensue. The entire play is a comic parody of the murder mystery genre; each writer uses their own style in trying to solve the murders…even as they drop in number. As the bodies pile up, will the murderer be found out before it's too late?

Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen's most beloved stories and the classic animated film, Disney's The Little Mermaid is a hauntingly beautiful love story for the ages. With music by eight-time Academy Award winner, Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and a compelling book by Doug Wright, this fishy fable will capture your heart with its irresistible songs, including "Under the Sea," "Kiss the Girl" and "Part of Your World."

Ariel, King Triton's youngest daughter, wishes to pursue the human Prince Eric in the world above, bargaining with the evil sea witch, Ursula, to trade her tail for legs. But the bargain is not what it seems, and Ariel needs the help of her colorful friends, Flounder the fish, Scuttle the seagull and Sebastian the crab to restore order under the sea.

Randle McMurphy is a charming rogue who contrives to serve a short sentence in an airy mental institution rather than in a prison. This, he learns, was a mistake. He clashes with the head nurse, a fierce martinet. McMurphy quickly takes over the yard and accomplishes what the medical profession has been unable to do for twelve years; he makes a presumed deaf and dumb Indian talk. He leads others out of introversion, stages a revolt so that they can see the World Series on television, and arranges a rollicking midnight party with liquor and chippies. For one offense, the head nurse has McMurphy submit to shock treatment. The party is too horrid for her and she forces him to submit to a final correction: a frontal lobotomy.

Starlight Community Theater's 2021 - 2022 Season!

We’ve already announced our season opener – FOOTLOOSE – a teen musical – auditions May 13 – FOOTLOOSE runs July 23 to August 8, 2021.

COVID couldn’t prevent us from presenting a dark look at mental institutions, abuse of power, madness, sanity, and the fine line between them – in ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOOS NEST, an adult drama, running September 10-19, 2021.

Something is rotting in the state of Denmark as Hamlet solves the mystery of his mother's marriage to his uncle and his father's transformation from King to Zombie King before fending off both the Norwegians and the zombie hordes.  Get ready for a spooky retelling of one of the Bard's classics with lots of fun and a little bite.  The youth play, HAMLET and ZOMBIES, will run October 8-17.

As the title suggests, there's a lot of fuss over nothing!  Get ready to laugh at two pairs of star-crossed lovers when Shakespeare’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING hits Starlight February 18-27, 2022.

On April 1-10, 2022, two casts – one teen and one adult – will present GODSPELL, the story of the last days of Jesus based the Gospel according to St. Matthew.

Five has-been mystery fiction writers are brought to the mysterious Vulture's Vault to collaborate on and write a new murder mystery TV series. When real murders start to happen, hilarity ensues.  DONE TO DEATH, an adult murder mystery comedy comes to Starlight April 29-May 7, 2022.

We close our season in a magical kingdom beneath the sea where a beautiful young mermaid longs to leave her ocean home to live in the world above.  DISNEY’S THE LITTLE MERMAID captures your hearts June 3-19, 2022.
