LUNA & SOLIS - Brelby Theatre Company - November 12-21, 2021

By Brian Maticic
Music by Brian Maticic, Helen Morris & Ben Cleaveland

Directed by Shelby Elise Maticic

The sun and the moon have loved one another from afar for eons, but their responsibility to humanity keeps them apart. They are only able to meet in person during an eclipse, when they take corporeal form.

Meanwhile, two rival towns have reached a crucial breaking point in their tenuous relationship. The town of Partume, led by Samuel, mines and creates tools and goods for both villages. The town of Azure, led by Amara, fishes and farms to provide both communities with food. Under the manipulative leadership of Dolo, both town leaders take strides to undercut each other with potentially devastating consequences. Their children Sienna (Sam's daughter) and Aaron (Amara's son) have secretly maintained a friendship over the years, and hatch a plan to bring their towns together and circumvent the dark plans of Dolo and his son, Dez.

Luna and Solis however, have grown weary of putting the lives of humans above their one happiness, and decide to run away together during the latest solar eclipse. What will humankind have to do to restore the balance? Can Sienna and Aaron convince Luna and Solis that humanity is worth saving?

Luna & Solis performs Nov 12-14 at the Phoenix Conservatory of Music, and Nov 20-21 at the Fruit Packing Shed in Saguaro Ranch Park (Glendale performances are free thanks to funding by a City of Glendale Performing Art Grant.)

Shakespeare in Love
Based on the screenplay by Marc Norman & Tom Stoppard / Adapted for the stage by Lee Hall
February 11-27, 2022

Penniless and indebted to two demanding producers, struggling young playwright William Shakespeare is tormented by writer’s block until he meets the beautiful Viola de Lesseps, daughter of a wealthy merchant, whose fiery passion for poetry and drama leaves her secretly longing to be an actor. Both are despondent when they learn that Viola’s father has promised her to the stuffy Lord Wessex in order to gain a title for their family. Under the veil of secrecy, Will and Viola’s passionate love affair becomes the basis of the very play he is writing – Romeo and Juliet. With opening night – and the wedding day – fast approaching, the plots race toward a parallel conclusion. Will it all work out in the end or are the two star-crossed lovers destined for tragedy?

Shakespeare in Love is funded by the City of Glendale’s Centerline Arts & Cultural Initiative.

Bards & Beasts
By John Perovich
April 15-30, 2022

Friendship. Family. Fear. Alex and Taylor are the new kids in town after their Mom lands a new job. After meeting their neighbors—Lindsay and Dakota—the four friends grow close through playing Bards & Beasts—a fantasy tabletop RPG packed with adventure, heroes, and an evil so pure that it’s an abomination. Twenty years later, the group’s childhood memories are tested when one of them goes missing. The lines between fact and fiction are blurred in this haunting story of loss, monsters, and the courage to face the unknown.

Echoes
Music & Lyrics by Helen Pauline Morris, Book & Additional Lyrics by Shelby Elise Maticic
August 12 - 28, 2022

Echoes explores friendship, family, love and loss. Friends are the family we choose, but what happens when life drives you apart? Sisters Gemma and Cassie find themselves brought together after a perfect storm of tragedies drove a wedge between them and their childhood best friends Sadie and Callie. The four women find themselves drawn together to fulfill a youthful promise now that they’re well into adulthood. As they finally face the implications of their choices, will they be able to mend their broken relationships or will they fade away like echoes?
