Audition Dates:
Sunday, November 2nd from 4 pm to 8 pm Monday, November 3rd from 6 pm to 7 pm

Performance Dates: January 16–25, 2026

Location: Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, 10580 N 83rd Dr, Peoria, AZ 85345

Dr. Vivian Bearing (F, 40s–50s)
A brilliant and uncompromising professor of seventeenth-century metaphysical poetry, specializing in John Donne. Diagnosed with advanced ovarian cancer, she undergoes aggressive treatment and confronts her own mortality with intellect, wit, and growing vulnerability. This is a demanding lead role requiring emotional depth and commanding stage presence.

Dr. Harvey Kelekian (M, 50s–70s)
Chief of Medical Oncology and Vivian’s physician. A confident, authoritative doctor who views Vivian’s illness in clinical terms. Represents the medical establishment’s detached, procedural approach to illness.

Jason Posner (M, 20s–30s)
A clinical fellow under Dr. Kelekian and one of Vivian’s former students. Brilliant but emotionally immature, Jason admires Vivian’s intellect but mirrors her earlier detachment. His journey exposes the limits of intellect without compassion.

Susie Monahan (F, 20s–30s)
A compassionate nurse who provides Vivian with genuine kindness and empathy. She serves as the emotional heart of the play — a contrast to the intellectual coldness of the doctors.

E.M. Ashford (F, 60s–80s)
Vivian’s former mentor and professor. Wise, warm, and deeply human, Dr. Ashford represents the empathy and grace Vivian comes to understand too late. Her final scene embodies comfort and unconditional care.

Technicians / Orderlies / Students (Any gender, flexible ages)
Supportive ensemble roles that help create the world of the hospital. Often serve as symbolic or transitional figures during Vivian’s treatments and monologues.

Please Note: the actress cast as Vivian will need to be willing to shave their head
