Auditions for REYKJAVÍK at Stray Cat Theatre announced for October 13

REYKJAVÍK

ROLES AVAILABLE:

3M 2F

You must be 21 years of age to audition.

Non-union only.

All abilities, ethnicities are encouraged to audition.

We will also be casting understudies.

*PLEASE NOTE THE TRACK OF PETER/MIKE/DAVEY/HULDUFÓLK HAS ALREADY BEEN CAST*

JAMES (M 20s-30s, any ethnicity) pretty and carefree, but his laissez-faire attitude is due to having lost a lot.

also HANK, a zealous, possibly immortal sex worker.

also EBON, an optimistic and very romantic raven.

*this role requires semi-nudity and simulated intimacy including kissing another man. we have employed an intimacy coordinator to ensure the safety and comfort of all actors.

DEBBIE (F 20s-30s, any ethnicity) probably psychic, Debbie is not her real name but she’s pretty chill about the whole “identity” thing.

also LYDIA, a pretty chill hotel employee.

also AMBIENCE SISTER, a magical presence, half of a whole.

also INGRID, an upbeat, pretty chill international stalker.

also One of the HUDUFÓLK (f), a “hidden person”.

GRIGOR (M 20s-40s, any ethnicity)  murderous, patient, quiet except when passionately invested in ‘torch song’ karaoke, possibly an invention.

also LEÓ, a very professional hotel employee.

also AARON, unable to express himself.

*this role requires simulated intimacy including briefly kissing another man. we have employed an intimacy coordinator to ensure the safety and comfort of all actors.

MARTIN (M 20s-30s, any ethnicity) solicitous and very focused, he baits the hook, in love with his good friend Grigor, possibly an invention.

also ROSS, a quality planner and decision maker.

also ROBERT, a lonely customer too willing to believe.

also MAN IN THE DOWN COAT, a mouthy drunk.

*this role requires simulated intimacy including kissing another man and performing a sex act on another man

NAOMI (F, 20s-30s, any ethnicity) James’s sister, with a bright pink stripe in a thick braid, and a lot of regret, still uneasy after dying young.

also LIL, a hotel employee, not into her current gig.

also AMBIENCE SISTER, a magical presence, half of a whole.

also VALERIE, gun-shy about love, always on the move.

PAY: There is a minimum $400 stipend for all actors cast. 

A smaller stipend is offered for understudies.

ABOUT THE SHOW:

James is in Reykjavík for the Northern Lights, but they’re not here. So he ventures into the 24-hour dark of the Icelandic winter and finds himself entangled with dangerous strangers, malevolent birds and the mysterious Huldufólk. Playwright Steve Yockey (SLEEPING GIANT, MERCURY, PLUTO, WOLVES, OCTOPUS), a genre-bending master of suspense, takes us to the end of the Earth to experience a dark, supernatural-tinged world populated with haunting characters who defy expectations at every turn.
