"The new musical Let the Good Times Roll: A New Orleans Gumbo, which is having its world premiere at the Phoenix Theatre Company, is a joyful and heartfelt tribute to the resilience and spirit of the residents of that vibrant city. ...the creators have crafted a jukebox-style narrative that feels seamless, with the lyrics telling the story of the city’s residents who have endured hardships yet always manage to rise again with faith, laughter, and celebration. The result is a show that is not only humorous, meaningful, and moving, but, with an excellent cast, well thought out direction and choreography, impressive creative elements, and a fantastic orchestra, it’s also a whole lot of fun."

"World premiere musicals in Phoenix are especially interesting because we get so few. And when it turns out that the musical is a joyous tribute to The Big Easy as is “Let the Good Times Roll: A New Orleans Gumbo” the show proves a richly rewarding and dazzling entertainment. The new musical has New York aspirations but even in this first production the show requires just a dash of thoughtful tweaking. The show isn’t big enough for Broadway but it is the perfect creation for a rightful place in a more intimate off-Broadway theater." -Chris Curcio, Curtain Up Phoenix (click here to read the complete review)
"LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL is a vibrant, music-soaked love letter to a city that lives and breathes rhythm even in the face of heartbreak and hardship....Written and conceived by Jack Viertel, the show is a rich mixture of music and memory, filtered through characters who span generations, neighborhoods, and life experiences. There’s not much plot in the traditional sense, yet despite this, the evening feels satisfyingly full. That’s because LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL understands something essential about theater: when emotion is paired with music that comes from somewhere deep, that’s more than enough to sustain an audience." - David Appleford, Broadway World (click here to read the complete review)
