"Hamish Linklater's The Vandal is an interesting and intriguing, though not entirely successful, drama that takes place on a chilly night at a bus stop in Kingston, New York, with a trio of characters whose lives intersect in mysterious ways. While the script meanders at points and some of the scenes are slightly overwritten, Linklater has crafted a play that is both haunting and daunting. Theatre Artists Studio's production features splendid performances and clear direction in a play that unfolds like a puzzle as Linklater reveals a range of emotions and secrets." - Gil Benbrook, TalkinBroadway.com (click here to read the complete review)
" (playwright Hamish) Linklater is into exploring the primal need for connection, particularly in the context of death and dying. The play, sensitively directed by Carol MacLeod, is now getting a most engaging treatment at Theatre Artists Studio. (The) focus is on three lonesome residents in a town in upstate New York for whom connection is wrapped in a shroud of eerie mystery...By play’s end, you may be uncertain as to where the truth lies but you will nevertheless be moved by the humanity of it all. What should be clear, however, is that the truth may not be as important as the story that enables each character to cope with the burdens of their lives." - Herbert Paine, Broadway World (click here to read the complete review)
