ASU Gammage presents, COWBOY, streaming for free on Thursday, February 25
ASU Gammage presents, COWBOY, a stage play about Bass Reeves, a Black deputy marshal, written and directed by Layon Gray.
COWBOY was presented at the 2019 National Black Theatre Festival.
Set In 1888, twenty-three years after the abolishment of slavery, U.S. Deputy Marshal Bass Reeves and his companion Grant Johnson find themselves stuck in a saloon with two wanted criminals.
ASU Gammage will be streaming the free digital performance on its YouTube channel on February 25, Thursday at 6:00 p.m.
Starlight Community Theater Announces the Winners of their 2020 Theater Playwriting Contest

Starlight Community Theater is pleased to announce THE PRESENT TENSE written by local playwright Eric Bond as the winner of the 2020 Starlight Community Theater Playwriting Contest. As the winner, Mr. Bond’s play will receive a virtual production this spring and given consideration for a full production in subsequent seasons. At the conclusion of the staged reading, the audience will be able to participate in a talk back session with the playwright, director and actors.
THE PRESENT TENSE is a family drama with a sci-fi twist. The story follows the familial struggles of Captain Belle Crozier; an astronaut seeking a balance between her earthly ties and her passionate longing for the stars. Mr. Bond, the playwright, is thrilled to see his playwrighting debut at Starlight Community Theater. Eric has been an aspiring playwright for several years, and an actor for much longer. Starlight is also pleased to honor the runner-up in this year’s contest. SIMPLY, I LOVE YOU, written by Matthew Eads, is a personal journey of love, passion, heartbreak and friendship. This show is about two young men who find one another at just the right moment in time. But of course, perfection is impossible and every relationship has its trials and tribulations! There is no doubt these two men belong in each other’s orbit, but their relationship may not end up like they expect. “This is the second full length show I have written, that will be staged by Starlight Community Theatre, and I feel so blessed!” said Mr. Eads. SIMPLY, I LOVE YOU will also receive a virtual production this spring.
The purpose of Starlight’s annual Playwrighting Contest is to encourage new works for the stage by providing an opportunity for Arizona residents to engage in the playwriting process. Starlight Community Theater values the time and talent needed to write a play. Submissions were collected in the early fall and an anonymous committee read and scored all the entries to determine a winner.
Last year’s winner was Holy Matrimony! Written by Dan Marburger. Holy Matrimony! Enjoyed a full stage production at Starlight Community Theater November 13-15, 2020. The 2018 winner was The Lost Girl, a D.H. Lawrence classic re-imagined by Germaine Shames. The Lost Girl received a staged reading on April 27, 2019.

Calling all Graphic Designers!! DESIGN OUR DUDS! It's a New Year and the Zonis are looking for a fresh look for our swag. If you're an aspiring graphic designer, then this is the contest for you! The winning design will be seen on tote bags and t-shirts worn by theatre lovers across the Valley.
Entries should embody the spirit of the AZ theatre community and must include the Zoni logo, our tagline "Many Stages, One Community" and be submitted in both color and black and white.
The winner will receive a $100 upfront payment PLUS $100 for each additional year we continue to use the design for promotional items AND you’ll receive complimentary swag items, be featured in Zoni and PHX Stages' Facebook and Instagram posts and also be featured on the ariZoni website PLUS you will also receive a 1/4 page ad (for either your company or a non profit of your choosing) in either the 2021 or 2022 Celebration program. The ASU Music Theatre and Opera Student Organization presents: The Color Cabaret
Join current ASU students for the first fully-produced Color Cabaret! This online streamed event showcases music from standard musical theatre repertoire to Brazilian rock songs. This entirely student-led cabaret is an opportunity for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) students in the Music Theatre and Opera area to create in a safe space, without having to ask for permission. This cabaret also serves as a fundraiser for the BIPOC student scholarship fund, led by the ASU Music Theatre and Opera Student Organization. Together, we are celebrating and highlighting what makes us different, in a field that is constantly changing. Join us and see how BIPOC students can make our communities more colorful, stronger and hopeful through our passion for performing.

Phoenix College announces Auditions for their Virtual Production of SPOON RIVER on February 18 & 19

Phoenix College will be holding auditions for our virtual production of this adaptation of Edgar Lee Masters’ Spoon River Anthology.
Synopsis
Spoon River revolves around some of the former citizens of a mythical Midwestern town. These folks speak from the grave, recounting the day-to-day hopes, dreams, and disappointments of their lives.
Casting 11 performers of any race/ethnicity, age, or gender/gender identity
Auditions will be held online using a virtual platform (see dates below). Rehearsals will be held online and in person from mid-February - April. In April, we will be filming at Phoenix College in the John Paul Theatre. Health and safety precautions will be followed throughout all aspects of the production.
Auditions will be scheduled virtually in 15-minute increments on Thursday, February 18 from 4:00 pm – 9:30 pm and Friday, February 19 from 4:00 pm - 9:30 pm (with the last scheduled appointment at 9:15 pm on both days). Callbacks will be held on Saturday, February 20 from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm.

Fountain Hills Youth Theater announces Auditions for GODSPELL, JR on February 22 and February 23
All auditions will be by APPOINTMENT ONLY! NO WALK INS ACCEPTED.
All Covid-19 safety protocols will be enforced and performed in a socially distanced environment. Masks must be worn at all times unless told otherwise. If needed, call back auditions will be in person only. (Again, all Covid 19 safety protocols will be observed.)
All auditioners should be between 12 to 19 years of age, prepare a 1 to 2 minute monologue, 16 to 32 bars of an upbeat song or ballad and be dressed to move. Bring sheet music. An accompanist will be provided, CD or electronic accompaniment is OK. Please bring headshot and resume, if available, as well as list of possible rehearsal conflicts.
Please arrive 5 minutes before your time slot and be aware that masks will be required at all times during your audition.
If you are unable to attend auditions in person (ie: quarantine), for this production we are accepting video submissions of 16 to 32 bars of an upbeat song or ballad (not to exceed 2 minutes) plus a comedic or dramatic monologue (not to exceed 2 minutes). Dames at Sea tells the story of Ruby, who steps off a bus from Utah with nothing but a pair of tap shoes in her suitcase and enters into her first Broadway show. But hours before the opening night, the cast learns that their theater is being demolished. With the help of some adoring sailors and a few toe-tapping songs, Ruby and the cast live up to the motto, "The Show Must Go On!" even if it's on a naval battleship.

It’s the first day after winter break at East High. The Jocks, Brainiacs, Thespians and Skater Dudes all find their cliques. Basketball team captain and resident jock, Troy, discovers that the brainy Gabriella, a girl he met singing karaoke on his ski trip, has just enrolled at East High. The couple cause an upheaval when they decide to audition for the high school musical. Although many students resent the threat posed to the "status quo," Troy and Gabriella’s alliance might just open the door for others to shine as well.

This registration is for the audition workshop ONLY. Registering for the workshop does NOT automatically register you for an audition slot. This workshop is to prep auditioners for their actual auditions but is not mandatory.
4/1/21-4/17/21 We will be presenting Disney's Freaky Friday A new musical adaptation of the classic novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films.
This workshop will help you get familiar with the show and our audition process to help you be as successful as you can be!
When an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies, they have just one day to put things right again. Freaky Friday, a new musical based on the celebrated novel by Mary Rodgers and the hit Disney films, is a heartfelt, comedic, and unexpectedly emotional update on an American classic. By spending a day in each other's shoes, Katherine and Ellie come to appreciate one another's struggles, learn self-acceptance, and realize the immeasurable love and mutual respect that bond a mother and daughter.

All actors please prepare a 32 bar cut from a musical written after 2000. An accompanist will not be provided. Please bring an instrumental track with you to sing along with and a headshot and resume.
If necessary, callbacks will be held Saturday, March 6th. Time TBD. Sides and additional material will be emailed accordingly.
Rehearsals will begin on or around March 15th at 6:00pm.
Most rehearsals will be Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:00pm to 9:00pm and
Saturday's from 10:00am-2:00pm. Possible Rehearsals May be Added.
At the Time of Audition, all conflicts will be required in writing.
TECH WEEK will be April 18th-21st. Time TBD.

Katherine Blake: Female identifying Age 40-49. A single mother who runs her own catering business. Overprotective and Type A, she believes she can have it all by doing it all: event planning, designing, and catering her own perfect wedding. Must also portray Ellie in Katherine's body. Strong belter.

Ellie Blake: Female identifying age 15. The hero of the story. A rumpled, disorganized "everygirl." She is smart, funny, and passionate about her school's underground scavenger hunt, but sees herself as a "Whats-her-name," and easily forgotten, unlike her "perfect" mom. Must also portray Katherine in Ellie's body. Strong belter.

Fletcher Blake: Male identifying age 8-10. Katherine's eccentric son and Ellie's younger brother. He is a budding puppeteer who habitually annoys his sister (but secretly looks up to her).
