Youth Works Spring 2016 Academy Classes
Is your child an aspiring actor? Theater Works Youth Works can teach your child the skills they need to become an accomplished actor. With classes for ages 7-17, our Youth Works Academy offers five classes for beginners, home school children and teens this Spring. Introduction to Musical Theater, Teen Musical Theater Voice, Home School Playmakers, Acting 101 and Acting for the Stage round out the Theater Works Academy lineup for Spring 2016. Academy classes are taught by Theater Works distinguished teaching artists. Classes begin January 9 and January 14 and run for 10 weeks. Deadline for registration is January 5.
Theater Works Youth Works Academy is especially geared towards fostering young actors to develop and hone their acting and stage presence skills. Focus is on building confidence through individual and group achievements offering a wide range of programs for aspiring actors with varying degrees of skill and experience. Academy classes culminate with a classroom sharing or performance of understanding for friends and family to attend.
Youth Works Spring 2016 Academy Classes:
Intro to Musical Theater
This class is designed to help students improve and enrich their musical theater vocal skills for auditions and performances. Special focus is placed on teaching students how to connect to the material of their songs through solo, duet and trio work in order to provide the most convincing performances possible.
Ages 7-11. Saturdays 10:00am – 11:00am. Sessions begin January 9 (no class March 5 and 19). Cost $175.00
Teen Musical Theater Voice
In this teen-only class, students will continue to explore the relationship between voice and breath with character and singing. Emphasis will be placed on auditioning for musical theater productions as well as on solo and duet vocal work.
Ages 12 – 17. Saturday 11:15am – 12:15pm. Sessions begin January 9 (no class March 5 and 19). Cost $175.00
Home School Playmakers Presents “Fractured Fairytales”
Join us for a special day time class! Students enrolled will be cast in a zany and wacky retelling of some of the most familiar fairytales but with a definite twist. This class will culminate in a performance for family and friends.
Ages 7 – 17. Thursdays 10:00am – 12:00pm. Sessions begin January 14. Cost $195.00
Acting 101
What’s a monologue? Where is downstage? How do I create a character? All of these questions and more will be explored in this beginning acting class. Students will be given an overview of acting and its many parts and pieces. This class is perfect for the young performer still navigating the world of the theater and for those with no experience.
Ages 7 – 11. Thursdays 4:15pm – 5:15pm. Sessions begin January 14. Cost $175.00
Acting for the Stage
Our teen acting class will focus on auditions, monologues and duet scene work. Actors will learn how to explore a script for character clues and break down a monologue into a workable piece. This class will be a great continuation for some performers and a wonderful introduction for those just getting their feet wet in the acting world.
Ages 12 – 17. Thursdays 5:20pm – 6:20pm. Sessions begin January 14. Cost $175.00
Classes will be held at Peoria Center for the Performing Arts (8355 West Peoria Avenue, Peoria, AZ). Academy classes require a minimum of 8 students for a class to take place. If registered for a class that is cancelled all monies will be fully refunded.
