Zao Theatre's 2015 / 2016 Season Announcement

To Kill A Mockingbird - October 30, 2015 - November 13, 2015

Set in the Deep South, Harper Lee's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel sees racial injustice envelop a small-town community. Through courage and compassion, lawyer Atticus Finch seeks the truth, and his feisty daughter, Scout - a young girl on the cusp of adulthood - brings new hope to a neighbourhood in turmoil. This utterly enchanting and enthralling production captures the warmth and poignancy of this best-loved classic with genuine heart and emotional depth. A story as moving and magical as you could ever hope to find; one that speaks to a new era of social justice.

Godspell - February 5-20, 2016

Godspell, the reimagined telling of the Gospel according to Matthew, as found in the Bible, is a musical in which the ten member cast makes the parables of Jesus come alive.  Seen as a comedy troupe in a colorful, magnetic, fantasy world, the cast includes Jesus, John the Baptist, and the disciples.  The story moves through fun times as well as poignant and emotional expressions of faith and relationships.  The music is energetic and driving.

The Foreigner - April 8-23, 2016

One of the late Larry Shue’s most popular comedies, The Foreigner provides not just plenty of laughs, but a sizeable portion of wonderful insights into human foibles. “The central character is Charlie Baker, a painfully shy British proofreader who briefly escapes a disastrous marriage by spending a few days at a reomote Georgia hunting lodge.  He’s brought there by an old military buddy, demolitions expert Froggy Leseur, who concocts a wild scheme to protect Charlie from having to interat with others at the lodge – telling them that he’s a foreigner who neither speaks nor understands English. This fairly simple set-up paves the way for several hilarious – and insightful – scenes, when the others spill the beans about some rather dark and potentially disastrous secrets (thinking that Charlie has no idea what they’re divulging).
