Synopsis:
Sneak a peek into the "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal" of the outspoken and lovable Junie B. Jones! It's Junie B.'s first day of first grade, and a lot of things have changed for her: Junie's friend, Lucille, doesn't want to be her best pal anymore and, on the bus, Junie B. makes friends with Herb, the new kid at school. Also, Junie has trouble reading the blackboard and her teacher, Mr. Scary, thinks she may need glasses. Throw in a friendly cafeteria lady, a kickball tournament and a "Top-Secret Personal Beeswax Journal," and first grade has never been more exciting.
Currently still seeking two actors for the following roles:
Mr. Scary: Junie B.'s first grade teacher, a warm man, despite his name.
Daddy: Junie B.'s dad. Kind and encouraging.
For audition, please prepare a song of your choice that will show off your voice and is appropriate for you and the character you are auditioning for. Please bring sheet music – accompanist will be provided. We will also be doing cold reads from the script.

Hosted annually by The Phoenix Theatre Company, the Festival of New American Theatre amplifies new voices and expands the canon of American theatre. Returning for its 25th year, the Festival will continue honoring our longstanding commitment to the development of new works, playwrights, and performers and include a variety of events that allow artists of all kinds to see their work come alive onstage.
This year’s festival will feature:

- First Draft Series
- a brand-new event showcasing the role of designers in new work development
- a return of the 24-hour Theatre Project.
The 25th Anniversary will also feature collaborations with Spotlight Youth Theatre and Arizona State University.

The Evolution of Dar takes place over a five-year span in the early 1970’s. Set to the soundtrack of selected top 40 hits from the era, the play follows a young boy named Dar, from nine years old to fourteen years old. He is raised by his alcoholic mother who is desperately lonely and insecure. Her two turbulent marriages are unbearable for Dar, as well as the endless bullying he endures at school. One way he copes with the torture of emotional and physical abuse is by escaping into a fantasy world of popular television variety shows. A story about how pain and suffering can often provide us with the courage to overcome adversity.

His wife, Helen, encourages him to find a steady job, while their son, Mikey, searches desperately for recognition of his own. After a surreal encounter with his idol, high-wire artist Philippe Petit, Walter believes he's found his ticket to success and goes to extreme lengths to fund his new prototype. Meanwhile, Mikey finds an unlikely friend in a pregnant classmate, Maria, who soon lands him a job at her Aunt Chris’s questionable small business. The estate's many wonders include a magic garden which beckons the children with haunting melodies and the "Dreamers", spirits from Mary's past who guide her through her new life, dramatizing The Secret Garden's compelling tale of forgiveness and renewal.

Arizona Broadway Theatre's 2023-2024 Season!
The wait is finally over! Arizona Broadway Theatre (ABT) proudly announces its 23 | 24 Season with musicals audiences love including Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Arizona Professional Theatre Premiere, and the highly-anticipated return and summer production, Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
Donors and full season subscribers gathered on Monday, February 27 to be the first to learn the productions for the upcoming season and enjoyed preview performances of songs from the season’s lineup. This type of roll-out of a new ABT production season has been a cherished tradition as many subscribers have been supporting ABT since 2006, or as many will say, “Since the Tent.”
The 23 | 24 Season opens with the return of an audience favorite Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat beginning September 29, 2023, with an opening season kick-off party. The musical follows favored son Joseph, his father Jacob, eleven brothers, and the coat of many colors in this over-the-top, Bible-inspired (Book of Genesis) musical comedy with music by Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Throughout the years, ABT has been a part of many families’ and friends' seasonal traditions with dining and a holiday musical performance. Arizona Broadway Theatre holiday subscriber favorite Irving Berlin’s White Christmas, returns to the mainstage November – December 2023. Featuring songs from Irving Berlin, White Christmas sparkles with holiday cheer, dancing, and laughter.
Next up,beginning January 2024, experience On the Town, an exhilarating musical comedy with iconic location scenes in New York and an unforgettable score by Leonard Bernstein. Travel back to New York City in 1944 with three curious US Navy sailors in search of love, fun, and the beautiful Miss Turnstiles! With only 24 hours to hit the Big Apple, Gabey, Chip, and Ozzie prowl the city’s points of interest, each finding romance with interesting ladies, only to find themselves in “awkward” situations.
Heading into March 2024, get ready to go on an adventure with Charlie Bucket, an imaginative boy whose dreams of acquiring a golden ticket to tour Willy Wonka’s over-the-top chocolate factory, come true. Audiences will satisfy their sweet tooth, as ABT premieres the imaginative world of Roald Dahl’s classic children’s novel, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. You’ll devour this family-friendly adventure that’s full of mouth-watering visuals that Must be Believed to be Seen. Strike that! Reverse it!
The last three productions of the season include A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, which starts in May 2024. This musical is a murderous romp filled with unforgettable music, nonstop laughs, and a scene-stealing role for one actor playing all eight of the doomed heirs who meet their ends in the most creative and side-splitting ways. This is a hilarious not-be-be-missed musical that will have you rolling in your seats with laughter.
Summer 2024, journey into a kingdom under the sea as Disney’s The Little Mermaid returns as it was placed on hold due to the pandemic. This is Arizona Broadway Theatre at its best, bringing Disney’s magic to life on the mainstage again after the success of its 2022 holiday production of The Christmas Carol The Musical and 2018 production of Mary Poppins.
Wrapping up the 23 | 24 Season, and with the popularity of ABT’s production of Game Show, audiences will again play an active role and help solve the murder with the Detective as CLUE The Musical begins in August 2024. Audiences are invited to dine and be in the room when ABT brings the world’s best-known suspects to the mainstage to solve this mystery. Six suspects, six rooms, and six weapons. With over 200 possible endings, everyone’s a suspect.

15-year-old Christopher is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched, and he distrusts strangers. Now Christopher stands beside his neighbor’s dead dog. Finding himself under suspicion, Christopher is determined to solve who murdered Wellington.
To audition:
Auditioners are asked to prepare a short monologue and be prepared to read cold from the script.

Video Auditions:
Must be submitted prior to March 12th, and may substitute for appearing at the Saturday and Sunday auditions. Auditioners must be available to attend in-person callbacks on March 14 if required. Video should include a short monologue and be uploaded with a headshot, and a resume (if available) when filling out the digital audition form linked above.
FHT prefers and encourages auditioners to be vaccinated.
Characters’ ages are not set in stone. Actors should consider roles if they feel they can represent the age ranges listed. All roles are open to all ethnicities.
CASTING FOR:
Christopher Boone – (must look late teens) brilliant at “maths”, searching for the killer of his neighbor’s dog, Wellington. Christopher is an autistic person who is exploring his place in the world as he seeks to solve the mystery of Wellington’s death. Actors with autism are encouraged to audition. Must be comfortable with the Swindon accent.
Siobhan – (20-50), teacher at Christopher’s school, she understands him best.
Ed Boone – (35- 50) Christopher’s father, loving, but quick tempered, stressed and frustrated with his situation in life. He always has Christopher’s best interest at heart. Drinks a bit to cope. Must be comfortable with the Swindon accent.
Judy – (35–50) Christopher’s mother, loving, but doesn’t really understand how to relate to Christopher. Must be comfortable with the Swindon accent.

Casey Likes to play Marty McFly in BACK TO THE FUTURE: THE MUSICAL on Broadway

Lead Producer Colin Ingram together with Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale are thrilled to announce that Casey Likes (Almost Famous: The Musical) will star as “Marty McFly” in the Broadway production of the 2022 Olivier Award-winning Best New Musical, BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Musical.
Likes joins the previously announced Tony Award winner Roger Bart as “Doc Brown” and Olivier Award nominee Hugh Coles as “George McFly,” who are reprising their acclaimed performances from the original West End production. BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Musical begins Broadway performances Friday, June 30, 2023 and officially opens Thursday, August 3, 2023 at Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre (1634 Broadway). Additional casting will be announced at a later date.
Casey Likes first emerged as a bright talent destined to be a part of the future of musical theater when he was named a finalist at the 2019 Jimmy Awards. He recently made his Broadway debut starring in the new musical Almost Famous. This morning, he was introduced by Bob Gale (co-writer of Back to the Future film trilogy) as Broadway’s “Marty McFly” in the middle of Times Square, as he emerged from a DeLorean LIVE on ABC’s Good Morning America.
Marty McFly is a rock ‘n’ roll teenager who is accidentally transported back to 1955 in a time-travelling DeLorean invented by his friend, Dr. Emmett Brown. But before he can return to 1985, Marty must make sure his high school-aged parents fall in love in order to save his own existence.
Based on the Universal Pictures/Amblin Entertainment film, BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Musical has a book by Bob Gale, new music and lyrics by Emmy and Grammy Award-winning Alan Silvestri and six-time Grammy Award-winning Glen Ballard, with additional songs from the film including “The Power of Love” and “Johnny B. Goode.” Bob Gale is the co-creator and co-writer of the Back to the Future film trilogy and Alan Silvestri composed the iconic film score for the series.
BACK TO THE FUTURE: The Musical is directed by Tony Award winner John Rando and features a multi-Tony and Olivier Award-winning design team that includes Tim Hatley (set and costume design), Tim Lutkin and Hugh Vanstone (lighting), Gareth Owen(sound) and Finn Ross (video), with choreography by Chris Bailey, musical supervision and arrangements by Nick Finlow, illusions by Chris Fisher, orchestrations by Ethan Popp and Bryan Crook, dance arrangements by David Chase, music direction by Ted Arthur and casting by Tara Rubin.
