"The Phoenix Theatre Company's production of the classic musical Cabaret is a visual and auditory feast that captures the glitz and grit of 1930s Berlin. The production excels in its musical numbers and atmospheric setting, drawing the audience into the hedonistic yet haunting world of the Kit Kat Klub, but it also occasionally falters in its character development which makes some moments less impactful. The performances of Alyssa Chiarello and Johanna Carlisle-Zepeda as the two women at the center of the story are compelling and memorable. However, some of the portrayals by the rest of the cast lack nuance, which makes the production occasionally feel slightly over-the-top, sacrificing subtlety for spectacle..."  - Gil Benbrook, TalkinBroadway.com (click here to read the complete review)

"Pre-Nazi Germany in the late 1930s was decadent, tawdry, and increasingly sleazy but they still had freedom. When Hitler took power, things changed radically and it is this period that the 1966 award-winning musical “Cabaret” captures. Set in a risqué, off-color nightclub, the Kit Kat Klub, the low-life floor show reflects the attendees and the performers. The dance chorus also sell their bodies to get by. The sharp-tongued Emcee takes the audience on a fascinating journey that explains what losing freedoms is all about. Could “Cabaret” have relevance in today’s America? Judge for yourself as you enjoy The Phoenix Theatre Company’s (TPTC) lithe and brittle but always dynamic and exquisitely throbbing production. Exquisite may not be a strong enough adjective for this remarkable staging."   -Chris Curcio, Curtain Up Phoenix (click here to read the complete review)

"The Phoenix Theatre Company’s new production of the Broadway musical CABARET, now in performance on the theatre’s Mainstage until September 1, is not only an outstanding production but also a perfect example of how high a level of theatrical greatness can be achieved at what has now developed into the city’s first-class regional theatre....By the conclusion of the show, there will be a lot for local audiences to remember and to talk about, but what will most likely remain in memory long after the show has closed are the performances of its two leading players, the Emcee, and Sally Bowles"  - David Appleford, Broadway World (click here to read the complete review)
