Fountain Hills Theater announces the auditions for MISERY on November 5 & 6


Fountain Hills Theater announces the auditions for the play Misery.

Successful romance novelist Paul Sheldon, is rescued from a car crash by his “Number One Fan,” Annie Wilkes, and wakes up captive in her secluded home. While Paul is convalescing, Annie reads the manuscript to his newest novel and becomes enraged when she discovers the      author has killed off her favorite character, Misery Chastain. Annie forces Paul to write a new “Misery” novel, and he quickly realizes Annie has no intention of letting him go anywhere. The irate Annie has Paul writing as if his life depends on it, and it does. Misery is presented through Special Arrangement with Dramatist Play Service. *Please note: This play contains scenes of extreme violence. 

Misery is directed by Peter J. Hill and will play Jan 6-22, 2023.  Performances take place on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30PM and Sundays at 2PM.

 Auditions will be held Saturday, Nov. 5 @ 12:00 pm and Sunday, Nov. 6 @ 6:00 pm.  Callbacks (If required) Tuesday, Nov. 8 @ 7:00pm.

Auditioners will be asked to present a short monologue and should be prepared to read cold from the script.  Early video auditions - which must be submitted prior to Nov. 5 – may be submitted and can substitute for appearing at the Sunday or Monday auditions.  However, if chosen from a video audition, candidates will be required to appear in person at the callbacks.  Video auditions should be sent to peter@fhtaz.org.  FHT prefers and encourages auditioners to be vaccinated.

Characters’ ages are not set in stone. All roles are open to all ethnicities. Actors should consider roles if they feel they can represent the age ranges listed. 

Casting for:

Annie Wilkes (Female, 50s-60s) – obsessed with Paul Sheldon, her favorite author, and willing to go to any length to have him resurrect her favorite character. She is a psychopath and capable of extreme violence.

Paul Sheldon (Male, 45-65) – author, held captive by Annie after a car crash. Mostly bedridden, this role does require some physical versatility (crawling/falling out of bed, etc.)

Buster (Male, 40s – 60s)- the local sheriff who comes looking for Sheldon after finding his car near Annie’s house.
