"...Cox's script has many laugh out loud moments and some clever parodies of the characters and events in the Potter franchise. However, it's also overly long and you really need to be a Potter fan or have a good knowledge of the books or films to understand all of the in-jokes in the script. Starlight Community Theater's production features two casts, one of adults and one of teenage actors, who alternate performances. I attended a performance featuring the adult cast and the strength of their performances and the fun creative elements help to overcome some of the shortfalls in Cox's script....Under Ric Alpers' direction, the adult cast of Puffs all look like they are having a lot of fun with many bringing warmth, humor, and heart to their roles....Joey Whelan, Gabe Escudero, and Kayla McCray, who portray Wayne, Oliver, and Megan, respectively, shine in their roles, with good comic timing and a nice sense of emotional depth that fleshes out what could easily have been caricatures. J. Kevin Tallent provides an abundance of sarcasm, which he delivers with spot-on comic timing, as the narrator, and the rest of the cast do a pretty good job of capturing the essence of misfit heroes....both a heartwarming and hilarious tribute to the unsung heroes of the wizarding world and an overly long parody that occasionally falls short. Starlight can't be blamed for the shortcomings in the script so it's fortunate that most of the adult cast are up to the challenge of the swift-paced humor required of the parody. What is Showcase?

Showcases are one-night-only, symphonic-style performances of Broadway shows in their entirety, featuring full orchestra, SATB chorus, and lead roles. 

Shows are assembled in three days or less on the week of the event, and performed on-book by passionate members of the theatre & music community.

For participant, music and rehearsal guides are given one month in advance for individual preparation.

Who can participate?

Anyone with a passion for musical theatre ages 14+!

Some shows have content advisories for children under 18; others have roles for kids!

AZMTO does not have participant membership, which means that every show is cast with a different group. Individuals can participate as schedules allow.

The only limits to chorus participants is how many can fit on our stage (100+). Orchestra sizes may have certain limitations due to the number of instrument books available.

How do I audition?

AZMTO doesn’t hold formal auditions. Instead, we have a 5-minute online application that must be resubmitted for each show.

What does it cost?

Applications are always free, but participation in the shows costs $30. We ask for this contribution directly after casting to confirm your role/chair. 

Arizona Theatre Company Calls Young Performers in Tucson and Phoenix to Audition for Scrooge! 2024

Arizona Theatre Company is looking for four (4) young performers ages 11-14 from Tucson and four (4) young performers ages 11-14 from the Phoenix area who can sing, act and dance to be part of ATC’s Scrooge!. 

Tucson Performers will only perform in Tucson and the schedule is October 15 – November 30. Rehearsals are scheduled Tuesday – Friday from 3:00 – 9:00pm and on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am – 6:00pm and call times and performance hours vary. The Young Performers will not be called for ALL hours but must be available during these time periods. This is a paid position - $250/week stipend.

 

Phoenix Performers will only perform in Phoenix and the schedule is December 4 – December 28. There will be five rehearsals in Tucson between November 15 and December 1, as well as in Tempe the week of December 4. Dates/times to be announced. Call times and performance hours vary.

Video submissions only. Please provide a headshot, resume, and tape of the Young Performer singing a single song (Broadway classic if possible) that shows off their voice. Deadline to submit is August 15, 2024. We will contact youth for callbacks, which will be held at a future time. Scottsdale Arts announces the 2024–25 season

Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts has announced an inspiring lineup for its 2024–25 season, filled with concerts and performances for a wide range of tastes, from eclectic to traditional. Single tickets will be on sale to the public at 10 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024. 

"As we head into the 49th season of events at the center, we wanted to think about live performance as an opportunity to connect with friends at an unforgettable show,” said programming director Abbey Messmer. “There are a rich array of voices and perspectives represented across the season and many artists that will be performing at Scottsdale Arts for the first time.”  

Scottsdale Arts brings Broadway to Arizona, including Tituss Burgess and drag superstar Sasha Velour with “The Big Reveal Live Show!” Aimee Mann, The Commodores and Rosanne Cash also hit the stage to perform for audiences both young and old. Plus, Scottsdale Arts welcomes jazz legends including Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, Branford Marsalis and Hiromi's Sonicwonder.
