"The plot and characters of Misery are incredibly memorable due to how well known the 1987 bestselling novel by Stephen King is and also from the Academy Award winning performance by Kathy Bates in the 1990 film adaptation as the psychotic, self-described number-one fan of a fiction writer. With so many film to stage adaptations, it's no surprise that one would be made of this familiar story... Fountain Hills Theater's production is well cast and smartly directed, making for a fun and suspenseful drama, even if you already know the twists and turns in the plot....director Chelsea Anderson does an admirable job of keeping the tension tight and the mood foreboding....Patrick Russo and Christi Sweeney are very good as Paul and Annie. They create fresh portrayals without appearing to mimic the well-known film performances of James Caan and Kathy Bates....Misery may be an almost scene-for-scene rehash of the popular film, but with a good cast and solid direction it still manages to elicit numerous thrills and chills." - Gil Benbrook, TalkinBroadway.com (click here to read the complete review)
