Show Synopsis
The town of Rosewater is afraid. Not of the raging forest fire that keeps getting closer to their homes, or the inexplicable increase in animal attacks, or the sinkholes opening up on Main Street, or the nearby army base firing off mortars like they’re under attack. They’re worried about what’s in their tap water, and God help whoever they think is to blame for it. Orange Skies is an apocalyptic dark comedy about conspiracy theories, mass hysteria, and corporate greed.
Character Breakdown
● Rebecca Oster (Transwoman, any ethnicity, age 20’s-30’s): A librarian, hometown girl, and one of the only people left with their sanity intact.
● Lee Bertiaux (African-American, age 20’s-30’s): A weary man of duty, the last HVAC repairman left in a town consumed by heat. Bookish & confident.
● Vern Glaikit (Caucasian, 50’s-70’s). A good ol’ boy, horny, boisterous, and easily impressionable.
● Dasha Ognyena-Glaikit (Caucasian, late 20’s-early 40’s, ability to do Russian accent a plus): A mail order bride turned Ugly American. Cunning and vindictive.
● Martin Reich (Caucasian, late 30’s-40’s): A paranoid conspiracy theorist, burnt-out drug dealer, and all-around manic presence.
● Tommy Pale Horse (Native American/Indigenous, 20’s-40’s): A rock and roll legend from the early days of music, genteel with a dark secret.
Two additional characters in the play, BRODIE WIGGINS and THETIS COVE, have already been cast.
Double-Casting: The actor playing TOMMY will also be playing the characters of CORPORAL HASTINGS, THE ROBBER, and SHERIFF JUDD.
