Arizona Opera Announces Auditions for Youth Performers (ages 6-14) on October 7 & 8 for their production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC



Arizona Opera is seeking youth performers of any gender/ethnicity, able to play ages 6 - 14, for (6) lead roles for their production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC

Rehearsals will take place Jan 28-March 1st. Performances will take place March 3rd -March 12th.

Music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein. 

The Sound of Music will be presented at Symphony Hall in Phoenix and The Linda Ronstadt Music Hall in Tucson.

An overview rehearsal schedule will be provided at the auditions. Performers must be available for all rehearsals and performances to be considered for roles.

The auditions will take place on October 7th from 5:00 PM – 10:00 PM and October 8th from Noon – 8:00 PM.

The deadline to sign up for an audition is September 28th by 5:00 PM (AZ Time).

MUSIC- Prepare with sheet music one song or 32-64 bars memorized.
A pianist will play as you sing solo. We want to hear what you like to sing!
You may be asked to sing a few bars from the show as well. Not-memorized.
These materials will be provided at audition if needed.

ACTING
For Friedrich, Kurt, Marta, Gretl – Auditioners will be asked to read a line or two from the provided materials.
For Louisa and Brigitta – Auditioners will read a scene with panel. Doesn’t need to be memorized, but should be prepared beforehand.

FEATURED CHILDREN’S ROLES (6):
• Friedrich (age 14) - Tough exterior, very much trying to be “the man” of the family.
• Louisa (age 13) - Rebellious attitude. Always testing the people around her.
• Kurt (age 10) - Gentle and mischievous. Can be silly.
• Brigitta (age 9) - Smart, reads a lot. Very perceptive. This child has the most amount of dialogue and needs to be very savvy.
• Marta (age 7) - Very sweet and gentle.
• Gretl (age 6) - The youngest child. Very cute and eager to play.
