audition notice - FOREVER PLAID - Theater Works - November 11 & 12
Theater Works excitedly announces auditions for our spring production of the popular and deliciously fun review, Forever Plaid. Sparky, Smudge, Jinx and Frankie discover they share a love for music and team up to become their own idols - The Four Freshman, The Hi Lo's and The Crew Cuts. Rehearsing in the basement of Smudge’s family’s plumbing supply company, they became “Forever Plaid”. On the way to their first big gig, the “Plaids” are broadsided by a school bus and killed instantly. It is at the moment that the story of Forever Plaid begins. Steve Hilderbrand directs.

AVAILABLE ROLES:
FRANCIS:
VOICE: Tenor/Baritone

The leader of the group. The connection between the audience and the guys.
A "Romantic Crooner". His asthma acts up whenever numbers are too fast or the choreography too energetic. Keeps the show moving.
SPARKY:
VOICE: High Baritone
HIGH NOTE G5 / LOW NOTE F3
The class clown. with a heart. The imp. The scamp. He wears a retainer and has a slight speech impediment or lisp. Jinx’s step-brother. Loves to perform. He loves to tell stories. Relishes every word. The comic engine of the show. He often speaks so fast that he repeats himself. (Piano skills helpful)
JINX:
VOICE: Tenor
HIGH NOTE: C6 / LOW NOTE: F3
The shy one. Doesn't always remember what song comes next or what the next move is. Sparky's step-brother. Occasionally gets a nose bleed when he sings above an A. He is only in the group because he sings great and high; The others are very protective of him. He transforms from being a timid boy to a more confident man during his solo, "Cry."
SMUDGE:
VOICE: Bass
HIGH NOTE: G5 / LOW NOTE: F3 (optional low c)
The worrier. Assumes that the audience won't like him. He has a chronic nervous stomach. Can’t tell his left foot from his right. Left-handed. Stuck in the "would've, should've, could've" syndrome. Bowls the audience over with sheer stage presence and musical prowess. Wears glasses, which hide his good looks and sex appeal.
