Synopsis
The story follows a Baker and his wife who wish to have a child, Cinderella who wishes to attend the King’s Festival, and Jack who wishes his cow would give milk. When the Baker and his wife learn that they cannot have a child because of a Witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the curse. Everyone’s wish is granted, but the consequences of their actions return to haunt them later with disastrous results.
Character Breakdown
CINDERELLA – young maiden constantly mistreated by her stepmother and stepsisters
CINDERELLA’S MOTHER – deceased, but her soul guards her daughter from a tree
CINDERELLA’S PRINCE – vain, gorgeous and fickle, he searches for the next exciting thing
CINDERELLA’S STEPMOTHER – mean-spirited and demanding
FLORINDA & LUCINDA – they follow in their mother’s mistreatment of their stepsister Cinderella
GIANT – (voiceover) his wife is an angry and seeking restitution for her loss
JACK – the Giant killer is adventurous, naive, energetic, and bright-eyed
JACK’S MOTHER – browbeating and weary, Jack’s overprotective mother is independent, bold and strong-willed
LITTLE RED RIDINGHOOD – spoiled young girl who is strong-willed, quick-witted and fearless, yet youthful and naive
MYSTERIOUS MAN – mischievous vagrant and nosy meddler, yet a good-natured protector and observer
NARRATOR – intellectual and pleasant story-teller
RAPUNZEL – loopy-but-lovely maiden sheltered by the Witch and terribly lonely
RAPUNZEL’S PRINCE – as vain, gorgeous and fickle as his brother (Cinderella’s Prince)
THE BAKER- harried and insecure, simple and loving, protective of his family
THE BAKER’S WIFE – determined and bright woman who wishes to be a mother
THE WITCH – sarcastic, ugly-then-gorgeous, obsessive protector of Rapunzel
WOLF – hungry and insatiable hunter who takes advantage of the weak by misleading his prey
