Characters:
Lucas Spencer: early to mid 30's. A dentist. Grew up on theupper east side of Manhattan. Recently married to his husband Kyle. Refuses to see the negative actions of his mother and blindly makes excuses for her. Doesn't always enjoy socialization with other people outside of his immediate family, partly because he's worried that he doesn't measure up.
Kyle Houston: early 30's, male. Born and raised in Iowa, part of a large family. Moved to New York for college. A former investment banker, he quit and decided to start building furniture because that was his passion. Sees the best in people and is Lucas' opposite in sociability. With the exception of his mother-in-law, Margaret. He sees her as a stereotypical mother-in-law and not as a person.
Gertrude Vandemere: 50's-60's female. A whimsical rebel, who refuses to let "society" define her. She marches to her own drum. Somewhat forgetful, and possibly a little alcoholic, but never drunk, she enjoys life. Has a particularly close friendship with Kyle.
Melissa Talbot: 30’s female. Kyle's best friend since college. She is an interior designer, and frequent collaborator with Kyle. Took psychology in college and ever since, thinks that she can fix everyones problems for them but often times causes more issues to develop.
Roger Talbot: 30’s-40’s male. A sportscaster and former baseball player. Injured out, and went into broadcasting. Likable to most people but oftentimes is the recipient of Lucas's ire. Alpha male in appearance but generally kind and lets Melissa, his wife take the lead.
Margaret Spencer: 50’s-60’s female. An old school New York socialite. Wants to appear as a leader of society, always dignified and impeccably dressed. Clashes with Kyle because she sees that Kyle brings out a loving quality in her son Lucas that he usually doesn't express with others. She was a distant parent that had nannies for her son, but deep down, regrets that she wasn't more of a "hands on" parent.
