Sam Primack hasn't yet graduated from Scottsdale's Chaparral High School but he's already made it to Broadway. Primack is joining the Broadway cast of the Tony winning Dear Evan Hansen as the understudy for the three male youth roles in the show, Evan Hansen, Jared Kleinman, and Connor Murphy. He steps into this role beginning April 26th and is in New York now in rehearsals.
Primack has been a staple on Valley stages over the years and has received several ariZoni Theatre Awards of Excellence nominations and awards as well as National Youth Arts Awards. He also appeared as Pugsley in the national tour of The Addams Family and he just played Jean Valjean in Chaparral High School's production of Les Misérables: School Edition two weeks ago.
Primack also was the male recipient of ASU Gammage’s 2017 High School Musical Theater Awards for his appearance in Catch Me If You Can at Chaparral. The winners go on to compete in New York at the National High School Musical Theater Awards, also called the Jimmy Awards, which recognize individual artistry in vocal, dance and acting performance, and elevating the importance of theatre arts education in schools. In New York, Primack won a $2,500 scholarship from the Barry and Fran Weissler Foundation and was also awarded a Six Week Pre-College Drama Summer Program Scholarship, presented by Carnegie Mellon University. It was there in New York City, and from his appearance at the Jimmy’s, that he attracted the attention of the Dear Evan Hansen casting agents.
Below is a little stroll back through some of Sam's Valley performances, as well as his performance at the Jimmy Awards where he was introduced by Dear Evan Hansen's Ben Platt.
