For the last year and a half local actress, Rachelle Dart has been working with her artistic partner Anya Hernandez on a piece that has led them on an adventure of inquiry. Medea in Me? is an exploration of stories, experiences, power, powerlessness and empathy. They explore these themes through the lens of the myth of Medea, different dramatic adaptations of Medea’s story and through the interviews of over 25 women. During the interviews, they collected not only the women’s words, which became part of the script, but also their gesture which are the foundation for the choreography of the piece.
The show has been in a devising process for the last four weeks, with Director Anya Hernandez, Dramaturgical Director Rebekah Dawn, Stage Manager Delfinia Valdenegro, Lighting Designer Armani Randolph, Devisers/Performers Madi Mays, Molly Bishop, Hira Ismail, Salome Chuma and Rachelle Dart, all with the amazing help of Producer and Scenic Designer Natalie Ward.
