audition notice - THE UNDERPANTS GODOT - Nearly Naked Theatre - February 26

Nearly Naked Theatre presents the West Coast Region and Arizona Premiere of Duncan Pflaster's THE UNDERPANTS GODOT.  A director surreptitiously plans an avant-garde production of "Waiting for Godot", with the main characters played by hot guys in their underwear instead of old men. When a representative of the notoriously litigious estate of Samuel Beckett crashes a rehearsal to investigate and decide whether the performance should be allowed, the performers must convince her by the seat of their... underpants. This hilarious meta-theatrical piece asks us to test our limits of  acceptable interpretation and adaptation of art from any era, be it Shakespeare or Tennessee Williams or the Batman franchise (Batnipples anyone?).

Character Breakdown
DOUG ALBERT: (male, 30+)A director with strong, if somewhat opportunistic vision. Appears in his underwear, but not necessarily (as in definitely not) an underwear model.

JENNA: (female, 20+) A stage manager (can be an offstage voice).

TIM O’FARRELL: (male 25-35) An actor, playing Vladimir in Waiting for Godot. Too young and good-looking for the role, really. Strong opinions on theatrical interpretations. THIS ROLE REQUIRES NUDITY

MARK RANSOM: (male 25-35) An actor, playing Estragon in Waiting for Godot. Too young and good-looking for the role, also. THIS ROLE REQUIRES NUDITY

TARA GONDLEMAN: (female 35-45+) Representative of the Beckett Estate. Seems pretty uptight. But maybe she isn’t?

BIFF SHOWER: (male 25-35) An actor, playing Pozzo in Waiting for Godot. In fairly good shape and knows it. Has a lot of Shakespeare experience and isn’t afraid to tell you about it. THIS ROLE REQUIRES PARTIAL NUDITY (the butt-flap in his long underwear is open most of the show)

KEVIN COOKER: (male 25-35) An actor, playing Lucky in Waiting for Godot. He’s on his phone a lot, like a plugged-in millenial.  Then after barely talking for a hour he drops an amazing monologue on inserted homoeroticism that goes right down a gay-fabulous rabbit hole. THIS ROLE REQUIRES NUDITY.

What To Prepare
Actors should prepare cold reads from the script. Sides will be provided after actors submit an electronic resume & headshot (or an experience summary and any picture, even a candid or a selfie).
READING WAITING FOR GODOT WOULDN’T BE A TERRIBLE IDEA EITHER
