"...a rewarding social drama that poses intriguing questions about who is best to care for a child of teenage drug addict parents. Space 55's production features an excellent cast, including several skilled youth actors, and does well in exploring the sensitive and stark social issues in Gilman's play....Director Duane Daniels does an expert job at making sure the realism of the story and characters is well played by his talented cast. As Caroline, Lindsey Gemme is exceptional in getting across this frenzied, frazzled, overwhelmed and overworked social worker...From portraying the range of side effects of their drug habit to exhibiting a heartfelt abundance of care for each other and their daughter, both Cheyanne Ballou and Xavier Jacob Morris realistically and beautifully exhibit both offensive behavior, when we first meet them, and empathy, as Karlie and Peter. ...DeAnna Robbins is great as the opinionated Cindy, who thinks her daughter doesn't take responsibility and believes that her religious views outweigh the rights of her daughter. ...a well-crafted play that shows how knee-jerk reactions, gut feelings, religious views and bureaucracy are pitted against each other in the tug of war over a child. ... "The dramatic stakes are high in “Luna Gale,” Rebecca Gilman’s ...taut, thought-provoking issue play...Directed by Duane Daniels, Space 55 Ensemble’s production is compelling even when it’s a bit rough around the edges.... Cheyanne Ballou as Karlie and Sarah Pansing ...imbue their troubled characters with convincing intensity, while Lindsey Gemme’s world-weary Caroline gives the audience an intriguingly complex heroine to identify with....a little more thought invested in the visual elements would be appreciated. There is no scenic designer listed in the program, and it shows ...a timely drama that contends with difficult social issues, performed with a lot of sincerity and somewhat less polish.
