GLORIA
by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins
directed by Dolores Mendoza
Tempe Center for the Arts Studio Theatre
September 29, 2023 - October 14, 2023
Pulitzer Prize finalist, Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Play
A group of twenty-something editorial assistants are pursuing it all at one of New York’s most esteemed cultural magazines. When a seemingly normal day at the office turns out to be anything but, these aspiring journalists recognize an opportunity to seize a career-defining moment. A scathing critique of our fame-obsessed culture and the cutthroat world of journalism, GLORIA will run you through a rollercoaster of emotions. With sharp wit and complex characters, Jacobs-Jenkins' writing is both timely and timeless, offering a searing commentary on the human condition.
“An adrenaline rush of a show! One of the year’s best.” - The New York Times
POTUS,
OR BEHIND EVERY GREAT DUMBASS ARE SEVEN WOMEN TRYING TO KEEP HIM ALIVE

Tempe Center for the Arts Studio Theatre
December 1 - 16, 2023
Setting: The White House. Pretty much present day but with more standards.
One four-letter word is about to rock 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. When the President unwittingly spins a PR nightmare into a global crisis, the seven brilliant and beleaguered women he relies upon most risk life, liberty, and the pursuit of sanity to keep the commander-in-chief out of trouble. Selina Fillinger's brilliant, all-female farce took Broadway by storm in a star-studded production that earned three 2022 Tony nominations.
“Gleefully filthy.” – The New York Times
UNTIL THE FLOOD
by Dael Orlandersmith
directed by TBD
Tempe Center for the Arts Studio Theatre
February 16 - March 2, 2024
After Ferguson, the ghosts of Michael Brown
UNTIL THE FLOOD is a gripping and revelatory new play constructed and informed by interviews playwright Dael Orlandersmith conducted with a cross-section of people in and around Ferguson. All of whom have vastly different perspectives on the incident that turned the town into a flashpoint in America’s never-ending struggle for racial justice. As it examines the community fallout after the fatal officer-involved shooting of Michael Brown, UNTIL THE FLOOD hunts for deeper societal truths - giving voice to a community haunted by injustice and a country desperately yearning for change.
“…so palpably compassionate, it achieves a great beauty by bringing us together rather than driving us apart.” - The Chicago Tribune
SLEEPING GIANT
by Steve Yockey
directed by Ron May
Tempe Center for the Arts Studio Theatre
May 3 - 18, 2024
The newest play from Stray Cat fave and now Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated playwright Steve Yockey
From the writer of Stray Cat hits MERCURY, PLUTO, WOLVES, and OCTOPUS - and now the acclaimed creator/showrunner of television’s THE FLIGHT ATTENDANT and the upcoming DEAD BOY DETECTIVES, we are beside ourselves to welcome Steve Yockey back to the litter. This production will also feature our Associate Head Kitty Louis Farber in the cast. When Ryan’s firework-filled marriage proposal accidentally awakens an ancient creature sleeping in a nearby lake, local residents become consumed by stories about the ‘thing’ and the dark effects it has on anyone who touches it. Admirers descend into zealotry and obsession where mob mentality, paranoia and blind faith beat common sense in a landscape that looks surprisingly close to the world in which we live today.
“SLEEPING GIANT…will haunt your dreams.” - Gephardt Daily
