Auditions for MCC Musical Theatre's production of THE SPONGEBOB MUSICAL announced for April 27 & 28

Audition Dates: April 27 & 28, 2023 from 3:00PM - 7:00 PM

Callbacks: Saturday April 29, 4:00 PM

Where?
MCC Music Building, Room MU-3
1833 W Southern Ave, Mesa, AZ 85202

How?
Please prepare 2 contrasting songs not to exceed 2 minutes each in length.

Those auditioning for named roles should also prepare a 60 - 90 second monologue.

Those auditioning for an ensemble role only do not need to prepare a monologue, but are welcome to do so if desired.

An accompanist will be provided.

Rehearsals begin May 30, 2023

The normal rehearsal schedule will be 7-10pm Monday -Thursday evenings
Saturdays 12-3pm (as needed)

Tech begins Wednesday July 12. Performances are July 20 - 29


Character Descriptions

SpongeBob SquarePants (Male or Female, Lead, Tenor): He is optimistic, innocent, and boyish; energetic and sometimes hyperactive. This actor should have the ability to move well and be an extremely physical actor - unafraid of climbing and being on tall objects. Additionally: Must be naturally funny and have great comedic skills and precision. Strong pop tenor.

Squidward Q. Tentacles (Male or Female, Lead, Tenor, G# belt.): Grumpy, cynical, dry, short- tempered, generally negative but lovable! This Actor must move well and TAP dancing skills is a plus.

Patrick Star (Male or Female, Lead, Tenor): Well-intentioned but lacking common sense or skills; kind and somewhat clueless, an innocent; a big softie, who can also be prone to sudden child-like fits of rage or frustration

Sheldon Plankton (Male, Lead, Tenor): His personality outweighs his size- slick, scheming, nefarious; has the ability to charm; determined, he will do anything to get ahead in life; very greedy, but his heart is still open enough to rekindle a romance with his wife. This character will need to dance and rap skills a plus.

Karen the Computer (Female; Supporting; Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano): Glamorous, a robotic housewife of Plankton. She's been there for Plankton's every scheme and plot and has become jaded - she's been there and done that. Strong comic actor, as well as Singer and Mover.

Pearl Krabs (Female, Supporting, Mezzo-Soprano): Mr. Krabs' bratty teenage daughter.
This is a character role with Gospel vocal overtones.

Sandy Cheeks (Female, Lead, Mezzo-Soprano, Alto): A brainy and athletic Texan squirrel who came to Bikini Bottom for a research project. She acts as SpongeBob's most trusted ally on their quest to stop the volcano from errupting, using her vast amount of scientific knowledge and brilliant inventions to aid the mission.

Eugene Crabs (Male, Lead, Baritone): The greedy owner of the Krusty Krab, and employer of SpongeBob and Squidward. While everyone is off panicking about Bikini Bottom's imminent doom, he decides to strike the iron while it's hot and puts on a huge "apocalypse sale" at his restaurant, exploiting the fear of his fellow fish to make him even richer.

Perch Perkins: Male, Featured, Bass

Patchy the Pirate: Male, Featured, Baritone

French Narrator: Ensemble, Spoken

Sardines: Ensemble, All Voice Parts

Security Guards: Ensemble, Spoken

Old Man Jenkins: Ensemble, Tenor, Baritone, Bass

Mrs. Puff: Female, Ensemble, Soprano, Mezzo-Soprano, Alto

Gary the Snail: Ensemble, Spoken

Undersea Creatures: Ensemble, All Voice Parts

BFF Letters: Ensemble, Silent

Larry the Lobster: Male, Ensemble, Tenor, Baritone, Bass

Electric Skates (Male or Female, Featured): Rock and roll band members, the Skates are hard-core, grungy, heavy metals meet World Wrestling. Dancers, potentially comfortable on skateboards (need to "play" guitar while skating) open to rollerblades or roller-skates as well. Tap skills a plus. 

Ensemble

A variety of character types to play several featured ensemble roles explained above; Actors with comedic timing, strong pop/rock voices or contemporary musical theatre sound. 


MCC Music Theatre practices and supports non-traditional casting.

Standbys and swings will be selected from those auditioning.
