Auditions for NEWSIES, JR at Inspire Theatre Company announced for January 4 & 5



Ages 8-18 

Auditions are January, 4-5 w/ callbacks January 7.

Casting Breakdown:

Jack Kelly, the leader of the Manhattan newsies, an orphaned dreamer who yearns to get out of New York and make a better life for himself out West (Male ages 15-18).

Katherine Plumber An ambitious young reporter, works hard to make a name for herself as a legitimate journalist in a time when women aren’t taken seriously (Female ages 15-18)

Crutchie Jack’s best friend with a “bum leg” that causes pain (Male ages 12-18).

Davey Les’s big brother, sells newspapers to help his family earn a living but becomes swept up in the fervor of the strike (Male ages 14-18). 

Les Davey’s cheeky younger sibling, is excited by the newsies’ freedom and loves their independent lifestyle (Male or Female ages 9-11).

Medda Larkin A proud supporter of the newsies, she offers her theater as a safe haven for their revolution (Female ages 12-18).

Joseph Pulitzer A pompous businessman, Katherine’s father, owns the World and is concerned solely with the bottom line (Male ages 15-18).

Wiesel Aka “Weasel”. A disgruntled paper-pusher who runs distribution for the World and has little patience or sympathy for the newsies (Male or Female ages 15-18).

Newsies There are many Newsies such as Race, Albert, Muriel, Nancy, Specs, Pigtails, Hazel, Buttons, Tommy Boy, Romeo, Jo Jo, Spot Conlon, and others (Male or Female ages 12-18).

Darcy A photographer who works with Katherine (Female).

Dorothy and Bill Katherine’s upper class friends whose parents own big newspapers and help the newsies print the Newsies Banner (Male and Female).

Seitz The editor of the World who advises Pulitzer, but ultimately admires the kids’ newspaper (Male or Female).

Bunsen Pulitzer’s bookkeeper who helps Pulitzer come up with the idea to raise the newsies’ price per paper (Male or Female).

Hannah Pulitzer’s secretary who is a clever advocate for the newsies (Female).

Snyder The crooked warden of The Refuge, who is concerned only with catching enough kids to keep their government checks coming. (Male or Female).

Governor Teddy Roosevelt A well-respected lifelong public servant who inspires Jack to stand up to Pulitzer (Male).

Browery Brigade Includes the roles of the upbeat and charming Ada, Olive, and Ethel. A group of vaudeville performers in Medda’s act (Female). 

Ensemble and Other Roles include Newsies, Police Officers, Police Chief, Working Children, Morris and Oscar Delancey, Customers, Woman, Pat.
