Stray Cat Theatre's 2022 / 2023 Season!

GHOSTS OF BOGOTÁ
by Diana Burbano
directed by Alejandra Luna
Tempe Center for the Arts Studio Theatre
September 30, 2022 - October 15, 2022

Come get haunted.
A beautiful and heartbreaking dark comedy centering around three siblings, late 20s to late 30s, who return to their parents’ birth country when their grandfather dies. A universal story about family secrets, told through a very specific Latinx lens, and a story about that unique immigrant experience of never feeling fully at home in any country that can claim you.

“Wickedly humorous at times, gut wrenching at others.” - NPR

LA RUTA
by Isaac Gomez
directed by Chris R. Chavez
Tempe Center for the Arts Studio Theatre
December 2 - 17, 2022

A runaway smash hit at Chicago’s Steppenwolf Theatre.
To the U.S.-owned factories in Ciudad Juárez, Mexico, La Ruta is just a bus. But to the women who live, work and often disappear along the route, it's so much more than that. Inspired by real testimonies, and using live music to evoke factory work and protest marches, LA RUTA is a visceral unearthing of secrets buried in the desert and a celebration of the Mexican women who stand resiliently in the wake of loss.

“Bold, beautiful and timely piece of art....La Ruta triumphs. The setting may be Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, but the struggles of these poor, strong, beautiful women are universal. La Ruta is a must-see.” – Broadway World

SLAVE PLAY
by Jeremy O. Harris
directed by Damon J Bolling
Tempe Center for the Arts Studio Theatre
February 24 - March 11, 2023

The record holder for most Tony nominated play in history.
The old South lives on at the MacGregor Plantation—in the breeze, in the cotton fields…and in the crack of the whip. It’s an antebellum fever-dream, where fear and desire entwine in the looming shadow of the Master’s House. Nothing is as it seems, and yet everything is as it seems. In this provocative and explosive new play, Jeremy O. Harris rips apart history to shed new light on the nexus of race, gender and sexuality in 21st century America.

“One of the best and most provocative new plays to show up…in years.” - New York Times

FAIRVIEW
by Jackie Sibblies Drury
directed by Brianna Leann Fallon
Tempe Center for the Arts Studio Theatre
April 21 - May 6, 2023

Winner of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Beverly Frasier is determined to throw a perfect birthday party for her mother, but her sister can’t be bothered to help, her husband doesn’t seem to listen, her brother is M.I.A., her daughter is a teenager, and maybe nothing is what it seems in the first place! Fairview is a searing examination of families, drama, family dramas, and the insidiousness of racism in America.

“…dazzling and ruthless…a glorious, scary reminder of the unmatched power of live theater to rattle, roil and shake us wide awake.” - The New York Times
