STARLIGHT COMMUNITY THEATER continues the 2021-22 Season with HAMLET AND ZOMBIES by Will Averill. This youth play is for actors ages 8-17. Eight performances are scheduled for October 8-17, 2021 with the intention of selling tickets to capacity.

Auditions are Saturday, August 7th beginning at 9:00 a.m. at Starlight Theater. If needed, callbacks will be Sunday, August 8th at 7:00 p.m.
All actors will choose one of the attached monologues to read and perform at auditions. These do NOT need to be memorized, but you should practice to become familiar with your choice. You may perform any of the monologues, you do not need to stick to your own gender! If you are invited to callbacks, you may be asked to read a second monologue.
Also at auditions, there will be theater games! Please be prepared to work together in a group and to do some zombie movement.
There is a $150 production fee for everyone cast in the show due in full by September 17, 2021.
The Story:
To be undead, or not to be undead? That is Hamlet's question. In this fast-paced retelling of Shakespeare's famous tragedy, Hamlet must not only uncover the truth about his father's death and mother's remarriage, but do so while fighting off an undead zombie invasion! If that wasn't enough, his love life is complicated, his friends are seeing dead people ....and where did all these Norwegians come from?
Casting:
Actors ages 8-17 of all races, ethnicities, sizes, abilities, and genders (conforming and nonconforming) are highly encouraged to audition. All parts are open for any gender, but some roles have a preferred gender.
HAMLET (M) - the prince of Denmark
CLAUDIUS (M) - the King of Denmark and Hamlet’s uncle
GERTRUDE (F) - the Queen of Denmark and Hamlet’s mother
ZOMBIE KING (M) - the previous King of Denmark, Hamlet’s father, and a zombie
POLONIUS (M) - Lord Chamberlain and advisor to the king
OPHELIA (F) - Polonius’ daughter and Hamlet’s girlfriend
LAERTES (ANY) - Polonius’ son/daughter
HORATIO (ANY) - Hamlet’s friend
VOLTIMAND, ROSENCRANTZ and GUILDENSTERN (ANY) - all courtiers
MARCELLUS, BERNARDO and FRANCISCO (ANY) - all soldiers or officers
FORTINBRAS (ANY) - the prince(ss) of Norway
CAPTAIN (ANY) - from Norway
Various players, soldiers, attendants, gravediggers, and of course, zombies. There are many small parts that will be doubled-up.
