To our Desert Stages Theatre patrons, actors and staff -
First, the board of directors, would like to thank Laurie Cullity for her years of service and leadership to the theatre over the past 25 years. We look forward to celebrating her work for the theatre with everyone soon.
The board has worked to locate, interview, and hire both an Executive and Artistic Director who can continue to the great work that Laurie and her husband, Gerry started. This reboot of our theatre's leadership structure will help to keep Desert Stages Theatre around for many more generations to come.
We are very excited to welcome to the DST Family our Executive Director, Ellen Versen , and our Artistic Director, Gary Jurkovich .
Ellen is thrilled to be the new Executive Director at Scottsdale Desert Stages Theatre. She has worked many years in the nonprofit sector, bringing years of theater leadership, development, and business experience to her new position. As Development Director at Arizona Broadway Theatre, she established and developed meaningful relationships with corporations, foundations, and individuals to ensure the future of the performing arts organization and she also created major fundraising events like The Broadway Ball and “ABT Takes Manhattan”.
Ellen grew up in Pasadena, CA, and has lived in Scottsdale for 25 years. Ellen’s husband Walter has worked in the music industry with bands and artists like Queen, Genesis, Heart, REO Speedwagon, and Tower of Power. The couple have two grown children. Joe is completing his Masters degree in International Political Economics at Johns Hopkins University in Washington, D.C., and Emily is a teaching artist and social worker in Brooklyn. The whole family is fond of travel, the arts, and Jeopardy!
Gary is a recent transplant to the Valley from Minnesota, and is excited to be part of the Desert Stages team. He has many years of theatre experience including his work as a Music Director, Vocal Coach, Musician, Singer/Dancer (okay, singer who moves well), and Actor.
His favorite artist is Prince, and Gary once got to stand right in front of him during a late night show.
It. Was. Awesome.
Gary and his wife, Dawn, who is owner and founder of Relev é Financial Group, live with their two daughters, Olivia and Sophie, in Fountain Hills.
The board is very excited to see what this dynamic leadership team will be able to accomplish and meeting with all of you at our next open house in the next couple of months.
