Musical Theatre of Anthem (MTA) announces auditions for The Giver, a theatrical play for ages 12-adult (no-cut for ages 12-19) adapted by Eric Coble from the Newbery Award-winning book by Lois Lowry.
Jonas' world is perfect. Everything is under control and safe. There is no war or fear or pain. There are also no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. But when Jonas turns 12, he is chosen for special training from The Giver—to receive and keep the memories of the community. The Giver is the only person who holds the memories of real pain and real joy. Now Jonas will learn the truth about life—and the hypocrisy of his utopian world. Through this astonishing and moving adaptation, discover what it means to grow up, to grow wise, and to take control of your own destiny.
GENERAL AUDITIONS will be held Saturday, October 13 at 12 p.m. (11 a.m. for workshop participants) with callbacks on Sunday, October 14, at MTA in Anthem. Those auditioning should prepare a monologue one minute in length. Please have your registration materials (available on MTA’s website) completed prior to coming to the audition. Auditions, callbacks, and rehearsals take place at MTA’s NEW theatre performance space at 42201 N. 41st Drive, Suite B100, Anthem, AZ 85086.

AUDITION PREP WORKSHOP: Audition prep workshops will be held on October 12 from 4:30-6 p.m. and 6-7:30 p.m. During these 90-minute sessions, participants will be instructed on cold reads, acting technique, characterization and more. Participants of the workshop will get to audition prior to the general audition time. Cost is just $35 per participant and space is limited.
