Hale Centre Theatre will hold auditions for The Scarlet Pimpernel, playing August 24, 2018 – October 6,
2018. The show is produced by David and Corrin Dietlein, directed by Cambrian
James, music directed by Lincoln Wright, choreographed by Cambrian James, and
casting directors David and Corrin Dietlein. Performances are Wednesday through
Saturday nights, with Saturday matinees and some Friday matinees at 3pm. All
ethnicities are encouraged to audition.
SYNOPSIS
Set against the backdrop of the French
Revolution, this dashing and sumptuous Broadway hit will thrill you like never
before! Tons of fun ensues as Sir Percy and his band of patriots use disguises
and wit to rescue the innocent from certain doom! A soaring score, a beguiling
romance, and stunning costumes make this the must see show of our season. Come
“catch” The Scarlet Pimpernel!

Call backs for The Scarlet Pimpernel will be held Monday, June 11th at 5:00 PM (at the Hale Theatre) with the first
read through scheduled for Monday, July
9th at 7:00 PM.

Payment
Each adult actor will receive an estimated
payment of $900.00* for the run of
the show plus $150.00 rehearsal pay
and free meals between matinee and evening performances.
*Pay rate may differ if performances are added
or removed.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN
SIR
PERCY BLAKENEY: (24-36; Male; Bb3-Ab5 tenor) Grappin and The Scarlet Pimpernel. A
master of disguise, takes on multiple personae to help save doomed aristocrats
from the guillotine. Strong, courageous when he consults with the league and
plans daring escapes, but more frequent disguise – used to put everyone off the
scent – is the foolish, foppish nitwit, obsessed with men’s fashion and little
else. Also assumes the role of Grappin, Belgian aid to Chauvelin.
MARGUERITE
ST. JUST: (24-36;
Female; G3-F5 mezzo/belter) Beautiful, magnetic, a charming French actress
married to Sir Percy; spurns the blackmail-tainted advances of her former
lover, Chauvelin, yet struggles to understand why her husband Percy treats her
differently after their marriage.
CHAUVELIN: (27-36; Male; A3-Bb5 baritone) A suave, fox-like villain determined to
discover the true identity of the Scarlet Pimpernel and send him to the
guillotine; assistant to Robespierre, instrumental in doling out punishment to
those Sir Percy is attempting to save; in love with Marguerite, uses
persuasion/blackmail to ensnare her into spying on his behalf.
ARMAND
ST. JUST: (25-45; Male;
D3-Bb5 tenor) Marguerite’s headstrong younger brother who quickly becomes a
member of the league of The Scarlet Pimpernel.
MARIE
GROSHOLTZ: (20-36;
Female; D4-E5 mezzo/belter) Artist and close friend of Marguerite, becomes
instrumental in helping the Scarlet Pimpernel, also French.
ST.
CYR: (40-58; Male;
G3-A5 baritone) Marquis whom Marguerite inadvertently sends to his death; has
solo lines in “Madame Guillotine” number. Will double in the ensemble.
PRINCE
OF WALES: (30-40; Male;
C3-B4 tenor) Historically the son of George the III, a friend of Sir Percy who
calls him to his palace to inquire after Percy’s frequent and inexplicable
visits to France; foppish. Will double in the ensemble.
MERCIER: (18-34;
Male) Aide to Chauvelin. Will double in the ensemble.
ENSEMBLE: (18-30) Cupids of the Comédie Française, Soldiers, Prisoners, Paris
Street Mob, Royal Ball Guests, 6 Girl Servants at the Blakeney Estate.
