On Thursday, January 19 at 5:30pm MST, Arizona Broadway Theatre will join with the national theatre community along with our partners at ONECommunity, #OpenAZ and #TheUnityPledge to shine a light on equality, inclusion, diversity and hope, and to make a pledge that our organization is, and will remain, a sanctuary - a safe-haven - where equality and inclusion are central to our mission of enriching lives through the power of the performing arts..
Join us in the ABT lobby beginning at 5pm on the 19th for a short cocktail hour (a complimentary drink-voucher will be provided). ALL ARE INVITED!
Beginning at 5:30pm in time zones across the country, members of the theatre community - from Broadway to ABT and to regional theatres, high schools, colleges and community theatres - will come together to launch The Ghostlight Project's "Be A Light" campaign. (Read more here: http://bit.ly/2iQ9Zac). Everyone who attends should have a light source that is OFF when they arrive. At a specific time in the ceremony, all will be asked to turn on their lights to create a giant "blaze."
Gathering outside of theatres on the eve of the Presidential Inauguration, ABT, its community, and gatherings of people around the county will join in a collective, simultaneous action, together creating “light” to symbolize a continue hope for the future. Inspired by the tradition of leaving a "ghost light" on in a darkened theatre, artists and communities will make, or renew, a pledge to stand for and protect the values of inclusion, participation, and compassion for everyone - regardless of race, class, religion, country of origin, immigration status, (dis)ability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
An ABT/ONECommunity Networking Mixer will follow in the ABT lobby (cash bar and appetizers will be provided), and will conclude with a "Behind The Scenes" tour of the Theatre.
Anyone attending the Networking Mixer and Theatre tour will also be offered a performance $20 "rush" ticket to ABT's current Mainstage show, CAMELOT.
