audition notice - ASTERION play reading - Southwest Shakespeare Company and The Bridge Initiative - August 8
The Bridge Initiative and Southwest Shakespeare are partnering together to present a reading of a new play called "Asterion," by playwright Liz Duffy Adams (http://lizduffyadams.com/). Liz will be in town for the opening weekend of Southwest Shakespeare's production of her play "OR," and will be working with us on this project. It will be a fantastic opportunity to interface with an established playwright workshopping a new piece.
The reading will be directed by William Partlan. The time commitment is Labor Day weekend, September 3-5. Rehearsals will be Sat-Mon, in the 10-5ish timeframe (exact times TBD) with the public reading on Monday, September 5th, at 7:00 p.m. All rehearsals as well as the reading will take place at Southwest Shakespeare Company's rehearsal space at 55 E Main Street in Mesa. We are offering a $25 stipend for each of the three lead actors (the play also has a sizable chorus which we intend to cast with high school and college students.)
Auditions will be held Monday, August 8th, between 6-10 p.m. Please submit a headshot and resume to: info@bridgeinit.com
Here is the character breakdown for the workshop reading:
Asterion: Good coming timing. A central characteristic is honesty and native intelligence mixed with naiveté, some pathos and physical and mental strength. Empathy for this character will depend upon these qualities.
Ariadne: Good comic timing. Honesty, inner and outer strength and sensitivity sparked with intelligence but initially buried under naïve trust.
Theseus: Good comic timing. Genuine, if naïve, strength of conviction and duty, honesty and some oblivion
