Characters:
The Cat In The Hat – Our story's omniscient narrator, he is fun loving and enjoys rhyming. Pops up throughout the story to help the audience. Wise and attentive.
Jojo - The Mayor's son (aged 8-12), a "Thinker"--a smart child with a wild imagination.. Bright, creative, and inadvertently mischievous. He is a WHO that is in constant trouble and finds solace in his friendship with Horton.
Horton The Elephant - Our story's main character, he is a compassionate and gentle elephant. Commonly misunderstood because of his larger size. He is protective and loving of all creatures in the jungle.
Gertrude McFuzz - Horton's one-feathered-tail bird neighbor. Gertrude is sweet and timid. Though kind and loyal, she is also very vain and self-conscious of her shortfalls.
Mayzie LaBird - The most beautiful bird in all of the jungle. Oblivious to her self-centered ways, she relies on her talent of manipulation, and intoxicating beauty, to navigate her way through life.
The Sour Kangaroo - The 'leader' of the jungle. She is loud, brassy, and stubbornly set in her ways. A caring mother, but unabashedly sassy and soulful.
The Wickersham Brothers - These are not bad guys! They're simply a lot like kids who tease, play pranks and get a kick out of making mischief, although often at others' expense.
The Bird Girls - They are like the popular girls in any school--a clique of pretty, self-centered "back up birds" who do whatever Mayzie does.
Mr. and Mrs. Mayor – Jojo’s parents WHO are trying hard to raise a difficult child in a difficult world. They may get aggravated but they love Jojo dearly and try to do the right thing, even if it turns out to be a mistake.
General Genghis Khan Schmitz – The military school leader that tries to break Jojo from his “thinks.”
Ensemble – Jungle creatures, WHO citizens, circus performers, fish from McElligot’s Pool, Hunches, military cadets, the Grinch, Yertle the Turtle, Vlad Vladikov, and more
