ASU's music theatre and opera program (formerly Lyric Opera Theatre) is celebrating 60 years! After an initial collaboration between the theatre and music departments on "West Side Story," the first opera ASU produced in 1974 was Mozart's classic "The Marriage of Figaro." Join us on opening night to celebrate this special milestone with our faculty and students.
Considered one of the greatest operas ever written, "The Marriage of Figaro" is a cornerstone of the repertoire and appears consistently among the most frequently performed operas in the world. Composed in 1786 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart with Italian libretto written by Lorenzo Da Ponte, and based on the 1784 stage comedy by Pierre Beaumarchais, "The Marriage of Figaro" tells how the servants Figaro and Susanna succeed in getting married, foiling the efforts of their philandering employer Count Almaviva to seduce Susanna, and teaching him a lesson in fidelity. From the first notes of the famous overture to the most noble of operatic finales, Mozart and Da Ponte's comic and powerful opera remains entertaining, powerful and timeless.

Suitable for all audiences. Sung in Italian with English supertitles.
