Auditions for SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE at Fountain Hills Theater announced for September 2 & 4

AUDITIONS:
Saturday, September 2 at 12pm and Monday, September 4 at 6pm
Callbacks (if required) Tuesday, September 5 at 7pm
Rehearsals Begin September 16 at 2pm

PRODUCTION DATES:
November 3 – 19, 2023
Performances Thursday, Friday, Saturday at 7:30pm and Sunday at 2pm
1 Daytime school field trip performance either November 7th, 8th, or 9th (date TBD)

A Play in the Mainstage Theater


Young Will Shakespeare has writer’s block. The deadline for his new play is approaching, but he’s in desperate need of inspiration. That is, until he finds his muse… the feisty, brilliant and beautiful Viola. This crafty young woman is Will’s greatest admirer and will stop at nothing to appear in his next play. Will’s love for Viola quickly blossoms, inspiring him to write his greatest romantic masterpiece.

To Audition:
Auditioners are asked to be prepared to read cold from the script and prepared with a short monologue if requested.

Auditioners should:
– Complete digital audition form (at this link, or through above button)
– Bring headshot, and resume (if available) if not already submitted via link above.

Video Auditions:
Must be submitted prior to September 2, and may substitute for appearing at the Saturday and Sunday auditions. Auditioners must be available to attend in-person callbacks September 5 if required. Video should include a short monologue, and be uploaded with a headshot, and a resume (if available) when filling out the digital audition form linked above.

FHT seeks to include persons of every race, color, culture, age, gender, creed, physical disability, and sexual orientation. Character ages are not set in stone and all roles are open to all ethnicities unless otherwise stated.  Actors should consider roles if they feel they can represent the characters and age range listed.

Will Shakespeare:  Male, 30’s.
An ill- disciplined romantic.  Charming and roguish.

Viola De Lessups:  Female, 20’s.
Daughter of a wealthy man, aspires to be an actress.  Dresses in male clothes as Romeo.  An idealist with romantic overtones.

Henslowe: Male, 30’s and up. 
Owner manager of the Rose Theater in debt to Fennyman.

Wessex:  Male, 30’s – 40’s.
Nobleman with plantations in Virginia.  Arrogant and weds for money.

Nurse:  Female, 40’s and up.
Companion and nurse to Viola, wise and funny.

Fennyman:  Male, 30’s and up. 
Producer of The Rose Theater and a bully.

Ned Alleyn:  Male, 40’s and up.
Lead actor of The Admiral’s Men, Egotistic with a big presence and voice.

Ralph:  Male, Any age.
Actor at The Rose Theater, plays Juliet’s nurse.

Kit Marlowe:  Male, 30’s – 40’s.
Friend of Will and writer and a fighter.

Burbage:  Male, 40’s and up.
Lead actor and owner of The Curtain Theater.

Webster:  Male, late teens through 20’s. 
Street urchin who wants to be an actor.  Sly and conniving.

Sam:  Male, late teens through 20’s.
Actor with The Admiral’s Men, plays Juliet until his voice breaks.

Tilney/Sir Robert De Lesseps:  Male, 40 and up. 
Tilney, officious and determined to stop women performing and Robert De Lesseps Viola’s father, a nobleman with money.

Queen Elizabeth:  Female, 40’s and up. 
Steely, strong and authorative.

Peter:  Male, any age.
Actor with The Admiral’s Men.

Wabash:  Male, any age. 
Stammering actor and Henslow’s tailor.

Adam/Boatman:  Male, any age. 
An actor at The Rose Theater and the boatman.

Lambert/Nol/Molly:  Male, any age. 
Fennyman’s henchman, Nol an actor with The Rose Theater and Molly at the tavern.

Frees/Robin/Kate:  Male, any age.
Fennyman’s henchman, Robin an actor with The Rose Theater and Kate at the tavern.

Mistress Quickly:  Female, any age.

Dog:  A dog
