Arizona Broadway Theatre installs a state-of-the-art LED wall, which will premiere with their production of THE WIZARD OF OZ

 

Arizona Broadway Theatre’s (ABT) production of The Wizard of Oz comes to life with a state-of-the-art LED wall provided by Absen, the world’s leading LED display brand, renowned for its high-quality products and global presence. Stunning larger-than-life images transfer you over the rainbow to the Land of Oz for a magical experience unlike any other, beginning this Friday, June 16 through July 23.

In 1939, The Wizard of Oz was one of the first films that used “technicolor”, a 3-strip color process, and would revolutionize this tool for the film industry. The Wizard of Oz movie was advertised to be in full technicolor, but it used sepia-toned black and white for the opening and closing credits and Kansas sequences. The transition from black and white into color happens as Dorothy opens her front door to the vibrant world of Oz, using the contrasting elements to mesmerize viewers. Just as film has come a long way since then, live performances are advancing in immersivity by introducing audiences to never-before-seen technology.

While LED walls are usually seen in Broadway productions and national musical tours, the tech now makes its way to ABT, making it one of the first theatres in Arizona to have this type of technology installed in-house. Arizona Broadway Theatre is thrilled to reveal its LED wall for the first time during The Wizard of Oz, as it will emulate the true spirit of L. Frank Baum’s vision, creating eye-catching realistic and colorful images to tell the story of Dorothy and her friends. 

“The 30’ x 16’ LED wall incorporates more than 2 million 949 thousand 120 pixels to produce high-quality visuals that make scenes of the farm fields in Kansas, the yellow brick road in the forest and the gigantic head of Oz more realistic and come to life,” says Production Manager, Jamie Hohendorf - Parnell, “We invite everyone to see The Wizard of Oz this summer, as it gives our creative team a new way to enhance your experience, deepen the story and to bring a new generation of theatre goers into our home.”
