"There have been many stage musicals adapted from hit films, with almost all of them using an original score to musically tell the story and plot of the movie. However, the musical stage adaptation of An Officer and a Gentleman, which is based on the popular 1982 film that starred Richard Gere, has a score made entirely of pop and rock songs from the 1980s, including the Academy Award-winning hit from the film, "Up Where We Belong" and other songs heard in the movie. While not every one of those songs works to move the plot forward or to spell out the desires or feelings of the characters, the musical, whose tour is in Phoenix for a three-day run, is engaging, and the production includes effective creative elements and a talented cast who create believable characters in this feel-good story...." -Gil Benbrook, Talkin' Broadway (click here to read the complete review)
