ASU Music Theatre and Opera presents Livestream Performances of Two Live One-Act Operas this Saturday, February 13!

from our friends at ASU Music Theatre and Opera:

LIVE OPERA - ONLINE THIS WEEKEND!

This weekend we are planning to livestream performances of two one-act operas. While the online performances are free, an RSVP is required in advance. As these are live performances, they may only be viewed at the times indicated below. Performers will be masked with physical distancing and piano accompaniment. Performances are subject to change and may be canceled or postponed at any time.

THE INFINITE ENERGY OF ADA LOVELACE
By Kamala Sankaram and Rob Handel

Feb. 13, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Live Streamed from Evelyn Smith Music Theatre

Directed by Stephanie Sadownik ('20)
Music Direction by Randi Ellen Rudolph ('21)

Torn between her love of mathematics and familial duty, pioneering mathematician Ada Lovelace must decide how she will shape her life despite public scrutiny and societal expectations. Kamala Sankaram’s pulsing score and Rob Handel’s poetic libretto explore the dilemmas of an ambitious woman in the early 19th century, reflected through modern day’s glass ceilings - cracked, but not yet broken.

Suitable for all audiences.
Performance length: approx. 30 minutes

SERVICE PROVIDER
By Christopher Weiss and John de los Santos

Feb. 14, 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Live Streamed from Evelyn Smith Music Theatre

Directed by Jacob Verhine ('21)
Music Direction by Francisco BolaƱos ('21)

Join ASU opera students for a “selfie” of a relationship on the rocks in the digital age. “Service Provider” joins a couple on their third wedding anniversary in a swanky restaurant, quickly revealing that not all is well, as smartphone-obsessed Autumn spends most of the date online and unplugged from her husband who desperately vies for her attention. Comedic antics, betrayal and drama unfurl as we follow the couple through an event that probably won’t make “the Gram.”

This production contains material that may not be suitable for some viewers, including strong language and sexually suggestive situations.
Performance length: approx. 40 minutes.

Audience members are invited to our Virtual Stage Door to meet and greet the cast immediately following the performances at https://asu.zoom.us/j/83080843547

If you enjoy viewing our performances online, please consider making a financial contribution to the ASU School of Music, Dance and Theatre. Information may be found at musicdancetheatre.asu.edu/giving
