"I admit to having been cautiously optimistic when I first heard Spotlight Youth Theatre was presenting Gypsy. Could teenage actors pull off playing the larger than life, multi-dimensional characters in what is widely regarded as one of the greatest musicals of all time, especially the main role of Rose, the mother of all stage mothers? I'm happy to report that not only do they rise to the challenge, and do so in an exceptional way, but the intimacy of Spotlight's small venue provides an up close, personal view into these characters unlike any I've witnessed in the dozens of productions I've seen of this classic musical. Director Kenny Grossman deserves credit for not only choosing this beloved musical for the Spotlight season but also for finding a cast who deliver rich portrayals of these iconic characters, including a powerhouse performance by Jazmin Moehring as Rose...
