audition notice - JOHN LOVES MARY - Hale Centre Theatre - June 17


Hale Centre Theatre will hold auditions for John Loves Mary, playing September 24, 2019 – November 19, 2019. The show is produced by David and Corrin Dietlein, directed by Diedra Celeste and casting directors David and Corrin Dietlein. Performances are Monday and Tuesday nights, with select Monday and Tuesday matinees at 4pm. All ethnicities are encouraged to audition.

Payment
Mary McKinley, John Lawrence, and Fred Taylor - Lead: $75 per performance / $150-$225 a week*
All other roles: $50 per performance / $100-$150 a week*

Actors in lead roles will receive an estimated payment of $1575.00 All other adult actors will receive
an estimated payment of $1050.00 for the run of the show. Actors will receive a free meals between
matinee and evening performances and six complimentary tickets.
*Estimated payment may differ if performances are added or removed.

SYNOPSIS
One of the most charming and romantic 1940’s era comedies of all time. The story revolves around
Mary, who has waited faithfully two years for her fiancé John to return home from the war, only to
discover that John has taken a wartime bride...or has he? This show has delightful twist after hilarious
turn to keep you guessing until someone finally tells the truth! This hit Broadway comedy was made
into a big Hollywood movie starring none other than Ronald Reagan and Patricia Neal.

Audition Information
● Monday, June 17th at 6:00 PM
● Auditions will be held at the theater located at 175 South Hamilton Place, Suite 112, Gilbert,
AZ 85233.

What to Prepare
● The audition will consist of side readings. Sides will be provided. Please prepare 1 side to read.
● Please be familiar with the play.
● Read the breakdowns and bring your best characters to the audition.
● Dancing or singing will not be required at the audition.
● The casting directors use Casting Manager during the casting process. Please post your
headshot and resume to your Casting Manager profile.

Call Backs
Call backs for John Loves Mary will be held Saturday, June 22nd at 10:00 AM with the first read
through scheduled for Monday, August 5, 2019 at 7:00 PM .

MARY McKINLEY : (LEAD; Female; 23-25) Intelligent. Pretty. Direct. Practical. Alert and Energetic.

JOHN LAWRENCE : (LEAD; Male; 25-30) Attractive/Handsome. Sincere. Personable. Lots of Vitality. Army Sergeant.

FRED TAYLOR : (LEAD; Male; 25-30) Husky built-big sized young man. Loyal. Good natured, Good humored. Comic skills a plus!

OSCAR DUGAN : (Supporting; Male; 45-55) Elevator man. Big Irish character. Kind hearted and
genuine. Irish accent a must.

SENATOR JAMES McKINLEY : (Supporting; Male; 54-56) Broad shouldered man. Confident. Use to having his own way. Likes being in control.

MRS. PHYLLIS McKINLEY : (Supporting; Female; 50-55) Very Smart and Good. Humored. Kindly
nature. Loves her husband dearly!

LT. VICTOR O’LEARY : (Supporting; Male; 25-30) Very good looking – Handsome. Over Confident. Bit of a Braggart. Very Self Assured.

GEORGE BEECHWOOD : (Supporting; Male; 40-50) 40-50. Friendly and Competent. Works for the
Red Cross. Efficient and Particular. Precise.

LILY HERBISH : (Supporting; Female; 24-26) Showgirl. A little defiant. A little Proud. Brazen but
likable. Slight Cockney accent.

HARWOOD BIDDLE : (Supporting; Male; 50-60) Regular Army guy all the way! Assertive. Likes to exercise his position of power. Short tempered.

DIRECTOR BIO
Diedra Miranda Celeste (Director) Diedra is very happy to return to the Hale Centre Theatre. Her last
show directed here was The Miracle Worker . Originally from Los Angeles, she directed numerous
shows including her favorite, To Kill a Mockingbird . In Utah, The Rainmaker and an original, The
Bookbinder’s Tale . As an Actress, she has performed a multitude of Lead roles on stage. Her favorite
being Blanche DuBois in A Streetcar Named Desire . Thank you Dave and Corrin for welcoming me
