Added audition for the Understudy for the role of Muzzy Van Hossmere, with guaranteed performances.
Audition Date/Time: Tuesday February 5th: Singing auditions start at 8:30pm
The role of Muzzy Van Hossmere is being played by TV star Dawnn Lewis. Dawnn is best known for her role as Jaleesa in the hit TV Series A Different World. Dawnn has had recurring roles on numerous TV shows and films, including the film version of Dreamgirls, and is part of the new cast of Veronica Mars, airing this spring. Dawnn originated the role of Deloris Van Cartier in the world premiere of Sister Act: The Musical and is a Grammy-Award winning performer.
Dawnn has a prior commitment with her foundation that will force her to miss three performances during the second week of our run. So we are looking for an African-American performer to understudy Muzzy and then perform the role for the three performances Dawnn needs to miss.
The role of Muzzy Van Hossmere requires a powerhouse voice and the ability to sing a torch song ballad and a dixieland jazz song. The role also requires very strong acting skills and stage presence along with good comic timing. You should be comfortable moving and will need to handle basic choreography. Age Range: 35-45, Vocal Range Alto/Lower Mezzo with a belt
Audition Requirements:
Audition times must be reserved and will be assigned every 5 minutes. Please prepare 2 contrasting vocal selections of 32 bars or less for each. You will need to have sheet music in the proper key; an accompanist will be provided. No CDs or acapella singing will be allowed. Also have a monologue,not to exceed 1 minute, ready as well.

Pay: There will be a $350 performance stipend provided
Rehearsals start: Middle of March and will be on weeknights plus Saturdays and Sundays, with an occasional Friday night. All rehearsals will be held at Conservatory of Dance in Phoenix. There will be a rehearsal schedule with specific dates provided at auditions and a conflict sheet to fill out.
