"With the combination of Stephen Sondheim's funny and bright score that features witty wordplay and upbeat tunes and a comically rich book by Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is a classic musical comedy that won the Best Musical Tony in 1963. TheaterWorks' production of this comic gem has a hilarious cast led expertly by Hector Coris, sharp and funny direction, and gorgeous creative elements that make for a very fun and practically perfect production....Peter J. Hill's smart direction is fun and fast paced and he ensures his cast deliver humorously rich performances. He also includes several visual gags that get big laughs. Hector Coris is a winner as Pseudolus...The rest of the cast is more than up to the challenge of delivering the fast-paced, farce-like dialogue and the humorous and sophisticated lyrics of the score...With a cracker jack cast, astute direction and impressive and bright creative aspects, TheaterWorks' production of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is one of the best I've seen.
