An Invitation to Directors for Play Submittals:

MET Black Box Productions at 933 2018/19 Season

Mesa Encore Theatre is ready to begin programming the 2018 – 2019 Black Box Season.

Directors, please submit one or more shows that YOU would like to direct. This is an excellent chance for you to propose a show you have always wanted to direct! All submissions will be considered, with preference given to dramas, dark comedies, newer plays, and edgy works that don’t play well in larger theatres.

NO ORIGINAL WORKS – we are looking for works by recognized playwrights only. Directors must have a clear vision for their show. Musicals and variety shows with inexpensive rights fees will be considered this year but please keep in mind when submitting that the M.E.T. Black Box is a small and intimate space that cannot accommodate major or complex set changes and numerous props.

Any show you submit must have a cast size of 6 or less.

We will not consider shows that have been produced in the valley in the last 5 years and will not consider shows that are already a part of another theatre’s upcoming season.

Each production will include approximately 5 weeks of rehearsal in our secondary rehearsal space, a full tech week on the stage, and at least 9 performances that will span three weekends: Friday night, Saturday night, and Sunday afternoon, with the potential for a Thursday evening and/or Saturday matinee. The shows will be produced with set, props, lighting, sound, and costumes, in our 55-seat Black Box Theatre with full technical support. Performance date at this time are TBD but you may submit a preferred time frame

If you are interested in directing at the M.E.T. Black Box please submit the following form – required fields are noted as such. You may submit up to three plays. You also must attach your resume to the form. There is no size limit on the “Statement of Concept/Themes” section for each show so the more detailed you are the better!

All applications will be reviewed by a selection committee; those that present the best opportunity for both M.E.T. and the Director will move forward.
