iTheatre Collaborative Announces 2015/2016 Season

from our friends at iTheatre Collaborative:

Thirteen years ago, iTheatre Collaborative was founded on a wing and a prayer. The idea was that theater in Phoenix needed to be a lot more challenging; not just for audiences but also for the huge number of very talented artists that live here. And now iTheatre opens Season 13.

It starts in August with the Phoenix premiere of the hot, new one-woman play Grounded by George Brant, followed in October by the acclaimed Irish trio-logue, Port Authority written by Conor McPherson. In December, iTC’s annual Holiday Cabaret with Jeff Kennedy and friends. In February, the Tony award winning musical (2008) in its regional Premiere, Passing Strange, written by Stew and Heidi Rodewald. Season 13 closes in May, 2016 with a revised production of Eric Coble’s The Velocity of Autumn starring the acclaimed Judy Rollings.

Grounded
by George Brant
Aug. 21-Sept. 5, 2015
The story of an ace fighter pilot who's career in the sky is ended early due to an unexpected pregnancy. Reassigned to operate military drones from a windowless trailer outside Las Vegas, she hunts terrorists by day and returns to her family each night. As the pressure to track a high-profile target mounts, the boundaries begin to blur between the desert in which she lives and the one she patrols half a world away.

Aug. 21, 22, 27, 28, 29, Sep. 3, 4, 5 at 8:00 pm, Aug. 23, 30 at 2:00 pm

Port Authority
by Conor McPherson
Oct. 16-31, 2015
Explores the heart and psyche of the common man in these three interconnected monologues. The young man who is desperate to move out of his parent's house once and for all; the middle-aged man, a borderline alcoholic and serial loser who has landed a job he's not qualified for; and the old man, a sprightly widower who tries to make the most of his mundane retirement home existence. Set against a backdrop of contemporary Dublin—these three different generations are vastly different yet all three share a common concern about lost love—and their own part in losing it.

Oct. 16, 17, 22, 23, 24, 30, 31 at 8:00 pm, Oct. 18 at 2:00 pm

Holiday Cabaret
with Jeff Kennedy & Friends

iTheatre’s musical cabaret feast, a Valley tradition, will get you ready to celebrate the magic of the holidays—Christmas is just not the same without it. Songs, both old and new, sung by some of the Valley’s best voices brought together by Jeff Kennedy and his grand piano in our signature cabaret style setting with drinks and treats at the bar.

Dec. 11, 12, at 8:00 pm, Dec. 13 at 2:00 pm and 7:00 pm

Passing Strange
book & lyrics by Stew and music by Stew & Heidi Rodewald
Feb. 5-20, 2016
A daring musical that takes you on a journey across boundaries of place, identity and theatrical convention. Stew brings us the story of a young bohemian who charts a course for "the real" through sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. Loaded with soulful lyrics and overflowing with passion, the show takes us from black middle-class America to Amsterdam, Berlin and beyond on a journey towards personal and artistic authenticity. Winner of the 2008 Tony Award for Best Book.

The Velocity of Autumn
by Eric Coble
May 20-June 4, 2016
Swirls around Alexandra, an 80-year-old artist in a showdown with her family over where she’ll spend her remaining years. In Alexandra’s corner are her wit, her volcanic passion, and the fact that she’s barricaded herself in her Brooklyn brownstone with enough Molotov cocktails to take out the block. But her children have their own secret weapon: estranged son Chris, who returns after 20 years, crawls through Alexandra’s second-floor window and becomes the family’s unlikely mediator. No sooner are the words “Hi, Mom” uttered than the emotional bombs start detonating. A wickedly funny and wonderfully touching discovery of the fragility and ferocity of life.
